Hey guys, planning to drive out and see this car this weekend. I’ve found a few videos regarding corvette buying but nothing Z06 specific. Any suggestions on what I should look for would be greatly appreciated. I know the asking price is pretty strong but I don’t like to negotiate until I’ve physically seen the car, hopefully we can agree on a price. Thanks for your time, Tim
The Z06 definitely looks great with low miles. I would say the price is a little high. Maybe 25k given the miles. For reference I paid just over half his asking price for a Z06 with full bolt on and 69k on the clock. If it is going to be a garage queen, maybe it will be worth it to you. If you are local in Rochester, there is a yellow Z06 on Facebook marketplace for 4k cheaper with a few more miles.

Thanks, I know the price is high but I’m hoping he’ll be reasonable considering the time of year.
Yellow is definitely a deal breaker, I love the black with the mod red interior.
The description is pretty vague. It wouldn't make me want to go look at it unless it was just down the street. No interior shots, no engine shots, etc.
As for looking at a Z06, its not too much different from any other C5. Check for signs of water leaks around the side windows, and make sure the HUD works.
As Kubs said look for water leaks. The FRC cars can have water leaks thru past the drip moulding. Carefully check the headliner above the windows and above the A & B pillars for water stain or damage. Replacement headliners are very difficult to come by.
You may want to change the valve springs as a preventive maintenance item so factor that into the price if it hasn't already been done.
Not Z06 related but you should go through and check that everything works as it should, make sure the AC & heat blows out the selected vents.
Read the DIC codes
Good luck

If you don't have any C5 experience, check for codes, as many don't show up unless you check thru the DIC. One big set of codes (read: EXPENSIVE!) are the A/C codes. To find ALL the codes, turn the ignition to "on", then clear all DIC messages by pressing reset however many times it takes to get a blank screen. Then, while holding the options button down, press the fuel button 4 times in a 10 second period. The DIC will then start scrolling thru the codes, if any. The codes with a "C" after them are more important than ones with an "H", which stand for "Current", and "History". They are kinda self explanatory, C being a problem that's still a problem, and H being a problem that has occurred sometime in the History of the car, but may no longer be a problem. Some codes may also be reading an "H C", showing the problem has happened sometime in History, and hasn't been fixed. To exit the setup, simply turn off the key. Some A/C codes are a real PITA, and are labor intensive and expensive to fix. It sounds like a very nice, low mile car. However, it is almost 20 years old, and cars with miles that low can sometimes have many issues just because they've sat for the vast majority of time since purchased new. I’ve had 3 or four black IROC Zs, and they look nice, but get mighty hot when it's 90° outside!!! Hope this helps. Best of luck.....
Great looking car but I agree with the others, kinda spendy and a few pics of the interior and engine would be a plus. Also you may have already seen this post but some good info. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ion-files.html
You already know it's priced too high. One thing you might be able to use to negotiate is to look at the date code on the tires. Even if the tires look new, and have plenty of tread, if they're over 6 years old, they should be replaced. you can ask they guy to knock the price of new tires off of the purchase price. As others have said, if he doesn't have documentation showing that the valve springs have been replaced, i would factor that into the price as well since that's a known failure point on that car. It's a garage queen, so you'll want to check pretty much anything that is rubber. Also, be sure to get a pre-purchase inspection. Good luck. I hope you find a car that you're happy with.
One of the higher priced examples I have seen so far but guys have been watching the prices climb this year and are trying to cash in
Better be flawless for that money like he claims
But if its what you are looking for its up to you how much you are willing to pay
It is with great humor I read these discussions on the forum as to price. Regardless of the mileage, regardless of the condition, regardless of the model...they are all overpriced... whatever price is being asked. I have never read a thread where the seller was selling too cheap. If the car is very low mileage, it will suffer from not being used. If it has very high mileage, it is worn out. If the mileage is kinda average, they are a dime a dozen.
Cars are only actually overpriced for two reasons. If others are readily available with the same mileage and condition for less dollars...it is overpriced. If your budget does not allow you to pay the asking price...it is overpriced. Otherwise it depends entirely on how bad one person wants it and how anxious another is to sell it!
That sticky, along with several others in the C5 General and C5 Tech sections, will help you a lot when you go to look at the car. There is a buyers checklist in the file that is linked above.
Thanks for all the info guys. I wasn’t aware of the water leak issue and I especially appreciate the tutorial on running the codes.
The seller was more than happy to send all the pics and videos I wanted but after googling the vin I discovered he bought the car off BaT. The pictures and videos there showed a much more accurate description of the car. It was not as perfect as it originally appeared and he paid more than I was going to offer so I passed.
Good luck on your new search. You'll find the car of your dreams. Its out there, just have to be patient. Another place to keep an eye on is Facebook Marketplace. That's where I found mine.
I think you made a wise decision. There are LOTS of really great C5 Corvettes out there. If you're patient, you can find the perfect car for you at a good price. Definitely keep an eye on the forum for sale section. Good luck with your search.
