Default Predator Programmer

Have anyone heard anything pro or con on a new Predator Programmer that Eckler's has for sale on their web-site. Sounds like it will do the sme thing as Hypertech. I would appreciate any feed back before I purchase one.

calvin2093,

The Predator looks to be one of the best units for editing.

We will have it listed on our website starting early next week.

We will start carrying them in stock at all times.

We will be getting one and trying it out to see how well it will do.

I went to their site and most of the stuff that they have on there is not accurate concerning the Predator (for instance, GM did not put TM in the vehicles to give them a "soft" shift feel on the automatics; no, they put that in there, even on the manuals, to save on drivetrain warranty repairs). Here is the accurate information:

The Predator is the most advanced handheld tuning unit on the market today. It is by far the most complete, has more options, and has the best guarantee and warranty of nearly any aftermarket vehicle product offered today.

The Predator provides high performance flash tuning and OBD-II diagnostics capabilities in one module. Designed for the 99 to current GM vehicles (Application List, and coming eventually for Fords!). The Predator is a tunable performance module, which utilizes flash technology to reprogram the original ECU chip for optimum performance and drivability. The Predator gives the user ability to adjust selected parameters to suit their own applications and needs. The Predator will also include diagnostic features similar to the GM Tech2, such as the ability to read fault codes and erase them; this technology was also borrowed from our OBD-II tool, the Hellion.

Predator Features:

- Satisfaction Guaranteed! (15 day money back guarantee)
- Lifetime Warranty!
- Screen Size is 300% larger than the competition
- Files can be downloaded from internet which allows for future updates
and customized programming (competition does not offer)
- Quicker programming than the competition (takes approx. 2 min.)
- Full OBD-II diagnostic software (includes live data monitoring of MPH, RPM, IAT, ECT, LTFT, STFT, O2 Voltage, Timing, KR detection, as well as many other sensors) (competition does not offer)
- Revised Torque Management Settings for optimum performance (competition does not offer)
- Eliminates CAGS (Skip Shifting) on the 6-speed manual transmissions
- User adjustability. the user can set their own parameters. Choose from DiabloSport's performance program, have a custom performance program made for you by a Diablo Tuner, or create your own:

a. Richen or lean fuel mixture (competition does not offer)
b. Advance or retard ignition timing (competition does not offer)
c. Raise and lower shift points in 10 rpm increments
d. Increase or decrease shift firmness (+/- 25% and anywhere in between)
e. Reduce shift duration (time delay during gear change) (competition does not offer) (+/- 25% and anywhere in between)
f. Raise and lower rev limiter in 10 rpm increments
g. Correct speedometer for gear changes and/or tire sizes (will support ALL gear changes, and ALL tire/rim combinations)
h. Turn on fans at lower temps (in incremental steps of .1)
i. Adjust top-speed limiters (eliminates on the Y and F-bodies)

And, of course, many more...

Here is the dyno charts of a 2002 Z06 customer of mine:

2002 Z06 customer that gained right at 16 rwhp and 14 rwtq at approx. 6000 rpms. Only mods he had was the Donaldson Blackwing. He went -5% on the fuel and +2% on the timing. His peak rwhp was approx. 370 rwhp with the Predator tweaked tune and about 355 rwhp w/ the stock tune.

At 5500 there was approx. an 11 rwhp increase and 11 rwtq increase.

(if you can't see the below graphs please click on the available link instead)

Here's some shots of the graphs as well:

Blackwing with Stock Tune vs. Blackwing with Predator Tune
(please note that the peak rwhp on #4 [stock tune] is not accurate as the Dynojet measured the spike from the abrupt let off of the throttle - more on this below in the 2nd graph)

Stock Tune
(here is the true peak rwhp of Brandon's Z06)

Predator Tune
(here is the rpm at which the peak rwhp for just the Predator's tune occured at)

Here's a graph of factory (run 1), added Blackwing (run 4), and added Predator w/ Blackwing (run 12):

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,

James

Hey BfB-

My H/C Z06 broke the 400 rwhp barrier with the help of the predator (previously 394 rwhp) through leaning out the A/F ratio. My car is still running way rich though, do you think I can get you guys to get my predator to allow me to go leaner, or do I have to wait fo some costom tune announcement for H/C cars?
