The rears of these cars are dust magnets, no matter what you use.
If you use a rinseless wash like Optimum ONR or McKee's N-914, and dry with Korean made 70/30 blend microfiber towels along with some forced air, you'll have no scratches.
Hope this helps!
I live in Florida and for every beautiful evening, top down, beach area drive I enjoy in my C5 vert, I get to enjoy cleaning the dust and sand from the rear end and inside the engine compartment as the C5 is a bottom breather and with my Callaway Honker CAI, it acts like a street vacuum cleaner.
Over the years, I’ve tried out different looks and used the tail light seals both with and without the flush mount kit. I only ran the flush mount kit for a short time as I didn’t like the look as it reminded me at the time of the Chevy Cobalt. I eventually removed the OEM tail lights and have now been running the Halo LEDs since 2010. I’ve just learned to live with the fact that the big, beautiful C5 butt gets dirty. When I wet wash the car, I use a Master Blaster to dry the car as it works great in clearing out water from the panel seams, side mirrors, wheels, vents, and tail lights.
Well, yeah...I have been caught in the rain a few times and some pretty good downpours too. So let me rephrase that, I haven't washed it to clean it in about a decade. I've never tried the seals so I don't know if they work or not. Guess I really don't have anything for ya....
Must be very dirty!... Please wash your car... Dirty Corvette?.. Shame is in order.
As another "option" for the tail light seals, I used a length of chrome gap trim around my tail lights to give it a bit of nostalgic "homage" to its 60's and 70's ancestors-
I know it's not going to be liked by some, but, I'm an old school chrome lovin' dude! Happy motoring!
