Sorry not a very exciting update. We ended up changing our meetup day to Saturday afternoon. Which will be better since I can see the car in the light. I'll be sure to update once I check it out! Update incoming probably on Monday.
That's probably a good idea. It will be much better to see the car in the daylight. Looking forward to your next update.
Yeah they are all pretty inflated right now and I think they are going to stay that way for a bit. I just bought an '01Z yesterday, for me saving another 2k at most isn't worth waiting for a year.
That being said I've seen similar in a lower mileage range (50-70K) for like $15K though. $12.5 is a quite a bit for a car with over 120K that needs a clutch (though if it really is the original he must have babied it and highway drove it a lot). I've seen high mileage LS2 C6's sell for like 16K-17k recently too.
You guys are lucky to even have them available to look at. Just about all of ours in MN are stashed away sleeping by now. Although I went on 2 test drives this week over lunch hours and ran into one different C5 each day. And yes, they both waved!!!
If it's got nice paint and low wear on the interior etc, I think the price is reasonable.
As noted, if the shocks are original, plan on replacing them soon. Same goes for the harmonic balancer. Those two items were the first things to fail on my used, low mileage 2000.
I'm trying to find an automatic, to me that car is 11K unless receipts show thousands in new parts tires and and all kinds of stuff...thats why it hasn't sold. too hi priced.

Yesterday my GF I were the only ones cruising around Stillwater... We would have waved too, but we didn't see you!

Covid isnt getting people any more money thats some bs lol
Lots ask more cause everyone on CL is but they arent moving. 12k is pretty tall money....go check it out. Unless you fall in love with it tell him when hes actually ready to sell it to call you.
Guy is still attached to it...too many out there to overpay.
I bet you I could enjoy this for 3 years and end up selling it for close to what I paid at worst maybe at a 2-3k hit which honestly I'm fine with.
C5's are a great Corvette. They offer a great suspension, comfortable ride and pretty good on gas. We've owned our '04 convertible for 5 years now and just love it. We don't use it as a daily driver, which makes it that much more fun when we take it out for a spin or trip. Can drive for hours and get out of it without any discomforts. If you buy one, I bet you don't sell it in 3 years...as long as it continues to perform.
Also, take a peek at the "How-Tos" link at the top of this forum. Might be some helpful information for you.
Unfortunately I have nothing happy to report about. The guy told me over the phone that the interior was mint and there were no blemishes. So when I get there to see it first thing he tells me is the seat is ripped. He said it was a small rip. I lifted up the seat cover and it was a giant rip on the bottom with the foam actually coming out. I was not happy when I saw that. Also the dash was cracked and the whole car was just dirty. He had stupid looking superman floor mats too. I immediately was put off on the deal when I noticed the condition of the interior. It was seriously horrible.
The car itself was fine though, body looked good, I checked underneath and there was no rust anywhere. My mechanic friend took it for a test drive and said that he only noticed two issues. 1. an error code popped up on the dash saying something about the steering column. And then the 2nd issue was that the blower motor was really loud, definitely had to be replaced.
He did say mechanically it was great, everything worked, clutch was good, engine checked out good. Clutch and brake fluid could be replaced otherwise mechanically it's 100%.
I offered $11,500 and he countered $12,000 and I walked.
Super upset I didn't get the car, spent 8 hours of my saturday to go check it out just to come home empty handed. In retrospect it wasn't a bad deal at $12k. But I was so upset with the lies and bs he put me through, if I had known about those issues ahead of time I wouldn't have ever checked the car out in the first place but since i was there I was willing to buy it for 11.5 but when he said no I felt relieved because who knows what else he had lied about.
Anyway, I'm back onto the search hopefully something decent will pop up. Everything happens for a reason.
Good news is you have your money and will find the right car and he has a pile that he can keep lying about. I'd rather be in your shoes. Good move to walk.
The dash crack is a pain, you can fix it with plastic putty but it will never be quite right unless you want to flock the whole thing and go for that look.
The seats you might want to replace anyway. Service Column lock is a common issue that is DIYable. That being said he should be taking money off for those issues.
Sounds like the seller was a dishonest loser and the car was suspect. You dodged a bullet I wouldn’t have offered sh*t. Always trust your first instinct about a person and car you’re looking at.

A real pet peeve of mine are sellers who lie about the condition of a vehicle they have for sale. They waste my time and just instantly **** me off. When I see a seller lying about what is readily visible on first look I immediately become suspect of everything else about the car. I won't tolerate being lied to and always walk away when that happens. Keep up the search, quality cared for C5's are out there, sometimes requires some, or a lot, of patience and searching but well worth the time and effort to get the right one. Good luck with your search!

I'm really sorry it didn't work out. However, I think you definitely made the right decision to walk away. Honestly, I don't even think that I would have had the mechanic look at it. As soon as I saw the interior, I would have walked away. Don't worry, you'll find the car that is right for you. You have a reasonable budget, and there are lots of C5s out there that would be perfect for you. You just have to be patient. Good luck on your search.
