Hooking up the positive first shouldn't cause any damage. No current will flow with the ground disconnected.

when i hooked the ground up and i seen the spark i knew i just screwed up

i did not explain well enough i hooked the battery up just put the positive on first

I've put positive cable on my battery on first all the time

Maybe you touched positive to negative??

It's normal to see a small spark when the second cable is attached.

there must be more to it than just that.. hooking p up first would do nothing, They either touched each other, or put the postive on the negative post mabye

I don't believe it matters electricly which cable is connected first. It is good practice to take negative off first and connect it last. If you have a wrench on the positive cable with the negative cable on, and you accidentally hit any metal you will have a nice electric welder and it will ruin your day.
