Hi and happy new year everyone. I did a video review of my 1999 coupe and I thought I'd share it. If you have any suggestions or content you'd like me to create please let me know. Thanks and have a great 2021. BTW my wrenching skills are limited. lol.
To the OP, a very nicely done video! A great tutorial for someone looking to get into a C5 that covers just about all the bases and I really can't dispute anything that is said. The OP mentions BMW and Porsche as similar but as someone coming from longtime Porsche 911 and BMW ownership I can attest to the value of the C5. The cost to purchase and maintain a C5 is rock bottom compared to Porsche and BMW. Once again, I thought a well done presentation on the positives, and some negatives, on the best performance car buy of the century.
Thank YOU, Georgie! ... I'm looking for my first Corvette, and your video shows off the C5 coupe in its best light - 'warts and all.'
I'm definitely aiming for a 2001-2004, and I'm ambivalent between a targa coupe and a ragtop convertible. I'm also undecided between manual and automatic transmission -- there's no question that the four-speed auto tranny is easier to manage, but it's fun to run through the changes of a six-speed manual. (Though I've got to bear witness as to how difficult it can be to leave a stoplight without chirping the tires, with the M6.)
I appreciate your perspective on Chevy's Classic and Everlasting Plastic Fantastic!

Good luck with your search and you can't go wrong with any C5 (FRC, Coupe or Convertible). It's all in what you want. I choose the coupe, because I always thought I can take the roof off if I want "open air motoring", but I don't do that as often as I thought I would. With regards to MN6 or auto, again depends on your use of the car. I only use mine on the weekends so I like rowing my own gears. If I had to daily it in a lot of stop and go traffic I might lean towards the auto.
Again good luck with the search and you might also want to consider a C6. Their prices seem to be coming down a bit and I think they're great cars too.

Great video. Clear and articulate with excellent sound and video quality. Many youtubers take that for granted. Do you use the targa top alot? That's the one item that I might miss if I get a c5 z06. The scarcity of parts is worrisome but I'm sure it can be addressed. Thanks again.
I have a 2000 Vert and the only squeaks I had were at low speed. It took me awhile to figure out the sway bar bushings were dry, so I removed them and added some rubber specific grease. Now the car doesn't have any squeaks and nothing really rattles.
As far as the interior, I really like the materials. Its a subjective opinion I guess, the parts that are really important are nicely done, IMHO. One thing of note on the convertible is the really nice cloth finish on the inside. I remember most older convertibles I've been in, you looked up and saw steel rods. lol!

One of the reasons I didn't get a Z06 was I wanted the option of taking the targa roof off and enjoying some open air driving. To be honest though, I don't actually remove it very often so if I could do it all over again I might have chosen a Z06.
If I were you I'd drive both and see which one you like better. There is no wrong choice.
Nice video. I've got a thread going about daily driving a C4 or C5, and although I've owned a C3 for 8 years, I'm relatively short on practical experience in the 4th and 5th gens. This was really helpful.
I was hesitant at first to watch another C5 owners video showing off his car, but I'm glad I did. The video was very well done and informative. Truth be told, I never get tired of reading or watching stuff about C5 corvettes or just about any other iteration.
Fell in love with corvettes when I was about 7 years old and have owned two, including my current 2000.
