I have a 2003 Z06 in quicksilver. It has 23k miles on it but the motor is toast. Broke 2 pistons and messed up the heads so it needs a complete motor. Along with the motor it will need headers/manifolds and a x-pipe.
It has the following aftermarket parts:
Stage IV DTE diff with diff brace
OZ700 clutch
Corsa Touring cat back
Caravaggio rear spoiler and side skirts.
It still smells like a new car on the inside. One small nick on the hood but its mint other than that. Whats it worth as it sits? Thinking about going another route. Its never seen snow and only been driven in the rain once. Been garaged its whole life. I've owned it since 2003 and 2200 miles
Sounds like the sort of vehicle/project I'd be interested in... if I had the time/extra funds & means to transport it halfway across the U.S.
Have no idea what a buyer would pay but I'm inclined to believe you could lose less money if you dropped in an engine and exhaust and sold it complete/running... though as-is my rough guess is $6-8k.

That car in running condition is probably worth ~25k right now give or take.
A motor to what you are talking about it needing is at least 10k unless somebody throws a junkyard motor at it or has a spare LS6 sitting around. If they dont they will likely have a motor built and thats at least 10k if not closer to 15k for everything.
So I would think you could get somewhere in the 8-10k range for the rolling chassis to the right person. Because if somebody is going to spend their time and 10k+ dollars putting a motor in, they will want to be able to make some money on the car when they sell it. So you wont likely get 15k for it with somebody knowing they need to put 10k into it...there isnt any money left on the table for them. And the type of people looking at your roller are guys who want to repair it and flip it.
Looks like a great Z06 but since it needs a motor, headers, and x-pipe I think you will be lucky to get $10K for it. If it was all good, you would be in the $20Ks.
Sounds like everyone is about right on price, but it seems with it being such a nice car it would be worth finding or building a motor for it. I have a LS6 sitting on the floor of the garage. Send a pm if you decide to sell it.
I am considering put something in it but what I want to do will be 20k - 22k. Not sure that its worth it.....would be fun for sure though. I've seen several LS6 for sale but they have 100k plus miles on it. Putting something with that high of miles in a 23k mile car would ruin the value I think.
Motor is the big thing. Factory manifolds and x-pipe I see all the time for 100 bucks each if someone wanted a cheaper way to finish it.
Without intent to steal this thread, why would it need a motor at such low mileage? Was it abused at the track?
No its never been on a track. To be honest I'm not 100% sure . It had an A&A supercharger on it for 10 years plus and I never had an issue. I think it was around 7k miles that I started hearing a noise from the engine, the dealership found the cam bolts had backed out and were rubbing on the chain cover. They fixed under warranty. Never had a single issue after that. By what happened to the engine I'd say it either floated a valve or it got lean maybe. It broke 2 opposing side pistons and some of the valve heads in those cambers were broke off.
This car was never a daily driver.....I only put a few thousand miles a year on it sometimes less.
How much does it cost to rebuild it? Can the block be re-used? Couple thousand to repair the engine block/pistons/heads and manifolds and x-pipe are 500? Seems like such a great low mileage car to dump off for 10k. I would personally fix it, get it running, and if you still decide to go another route at least you probably won't be in the hole nearly as much as letting a mechanic/enthusiast buy it as a project for cheap.

yes I would never dump it for 10k. Better for me at that price to get it running and sell it for mid 20’s with a brand new ls3 in it.

There's your answer. I don't see anyone paying over 10K as it sits. Fix it up, and either keep it or sell it. It does seem VERY strange that something like that would happen. You mention that it had a supercharger on it, but it doesn't anymore? Perhaps the car wasn't properly retuned after the supercharger was taken off. Good luck with whatever you decide.

This happened with the supercharger on it, was trouble free in that same setup for over 10 years. I'm not sure what happened or why either. Like I mentioned about i think it floated the valve or possibly got lean real quick. I haven't removed the cam cover yet, guess its possible that the cam sprocket bolts back out again and maybe thats why.
Pull it apart, clean it up and throw bearings, rings, gaskets on it. Dump it in the car...
Dont think I can salvage the block. Haven't pulled it to see for sure but it happened at full throttle at 6k rpm. The valve heads are broken off and those 2 pistons are in pieces. All that revolved around for a few seconds before I got the clutch in and it locked up. It made a hell of a lot of clunking noises in those few seconds. Coolant came out of the oil pan so I'd say there is a lot of damage in there.

im not suggesting you salvage your current motor...
