Default LS6 Intake question.

I'm sure its been covered on here, but I couldn't find it. Do all 2001 and up base models have an LS6 intake, or only later models made that year? Also, can you tell WITHOUT pulling the intake off which one the car has?

I don't pick up my car until mid February, but already looking at some upgrades I want to do.

Thank you!!

I can't remember if the part # is visible, or not. BUT-The LS1 intake has a different part# than the LS6 intake. To answer your question, YES, all '01-up C5s have the LS6 intake. It is the primary reason the '01-up LS1s jumped from a rated 345hp to 350hp. The LS6 intake has virtually no room under it between the valley cover and the bottom of the plenum. The increase in plenum size is the primary reason hp increased. It is mainly at higher rpm, but it is there. The LS1 intake has a slightly recessed area on its bottom side. Hope this helps......

If you put the LS 6 intake on an earlier car you will have to deal with the coolant air bleed pipelines under the manifold. Without modification the LS 6 manifold and the earlier coolant air bleed pipelines interfere. For whatever reason 2001 and later cars have the rear head coolant air bleed ports blocked off, apparently to accommodate the LS 6 manifold. and only the front coolant air bleed pipes connected.

There are reports that the later coolant air bleed system does not adequately allow air out of the rear of the heads and may contribute to rear cylinder failures when pushed hard on track.

Maybe old wives tales, but many of us with 2001 and later cars have re connected the rear head coolant air bleed ports as a precaution.

I ran my LS6 intake with the LS1, 4 corner steam pipes, and had zero problems. To be absolutely correct in a perfect world, yes, I should have either clearanced the bottom of the intake, or ran just the 2 front steam pipes like on '01 and up models. In the real world, however, the manifold is of composite construction, and is somewhat flexible. I also ran my 90mm FAST intake the same way. I want to add that neither manifold seemed to bind, and nothing failed to line up correctly. Never had any problems in either application.....
