I CAN'T REALLY AFFORD A Z06, BUT I REALLY LIKE THE BODY STYLE. I FOUND A 00 FRC HT. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THE AIR DUCTS BY THE REAR WHEELS, LIKE A Z06. I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT PUT A Z06 BADGE ON THE CAR THOUGH. WOULD THE BRAKE DUCT ADD ON OFFEND ANY Z06 OWNERS, IF NOT HOW MUCH WOULD THESE DUCTS COST? ALSO WONDERING WHAT THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK PERFORMANCE MODS WOULD BE? I KNOW I COULD ASK THE PERFORMANCE MOD QUESTIOPN ON THE C5 SITE, BUT I THOUGHT I'D COME STRAIGHT TO THE BIG BOYS! THANKS, TIM
There are lots of guys that have added the brake ducts, screens, wheels ect. It would not offend me at all if you added the brake ducts and other Z06 items. I had chrome Z06 wheels on my 2001 coupe. I say go for it.
Go for it. A Corvette is a vehicle of self expression. It is your car, do what you want to really make it yours. As far as actual badges go(I know that wasn't your question), I don't take offense to them but think it is kind of kooky to masquerade the car as something it isn't. I think the brake ducks look cool also.....do it. Bang for the buck performance......a new airbox is good for close to 15hp for that car(Donaldson makes a relatively decent, cheap, easy to install unit). That is relatively cheap hp. Headers are also good but cost a lot. And then all the other stuff like throttle body, MAF, etc. that can add incrementally to your hp. Good luck and have a blast.
I'm a fan of the HT body style too. As long as you don't add Z06 badges, any mod you do is fine. Do what you like - it's your car. Mods would include an air intake and exhaust to start, then maybe headers, and if you're really serious - heads/cam, etc. :seeya
you can add anything u want to the car.... its your car after all, so who really cares what other people have to say
BUT, if u asked for opinions, then im pretty sure most people would think putting on the badging would be a little too much, unless u dropped a ZO6 or better engine in it.
as far as the rear brake ducts go... they are supposed to be functional, and not only for "posing" purposes....
I too was in your position, could not afford a ZO6, but loved the HT look. Im glad i was able to get a vette altogether. I am even MORE happier now that I am modding it!!! with the money u save, u can make your FRC fairly quick, and still have money left over.
No problem with the ducts, but......if you're thinking of buying a white or Nass Blue car, you might want to hesitate. There is a notion that those cars *might* be more valuable, someday, due to the scarcity of those colors.
Badges? Don't get me started on the badge issue. I think that corvetteforum members are licensed to track down and kill owners of fake-badge cars, but I might be wrong. Of course, you have our permission to put dozens of "Type R" badges on it. :D
[and a side note to the badge issue....no motor transplant or ducts or screens or wheels will ever make it a Z06, just like dropping a Hemi into any old Mopar doesn't suddenly make it a collector's item]
As far as mods go it's up to you, I don't add anything that doesn't complement the performance in some way. With an FRC I would go the sleeper route and keep everything external stock and work my way through bolt ons and eventually a H/C package :D
I think L.A.P.D. is creating an "LS-1 " Z06-looking badge. Like the ones from MidAmerica (shown below)...
...I'm thinking of getting the ducts added to my car and the above badge. I'm going to put "367 HP" below the badge in vinyl lettering like the one in the pic below:
I love the FRC/Z06 body style. I was debating recently about trading my FRC on a Z06, but decided on the LPE H/C package instead. I was close to a deal on a Z06 and was impressed with the few extra horses and liked the idea of a newer car.
I just go my car back from 21st Century and I know I made the right decision. I have an honest 404 RWHP in a car that has a nearly stock idle and lots of cash in my pocket.
You will also need to paint the calipers and change the wheels. I was torn between a FRC and a Convertible, now I have the best of both worlds. Although I do like the wheels, no fake Z06 stuff for me!
