I bought my 2004 Le Mans Edition convertible last year, manual 6 spd with 25,000 miles.
No splash guards, so has rocker panel road rash.
I plan to get the rockers stripped and repainted this month, then add splash guards.
I've looked at Altec - anyone using them? Other brands I should consider?
Thanks in advance.
Here is what I use. Very low recognition. Part number C5T801. I find as much road rash debris occurs on lower part of body from passing traffic. Not much you can avoid with that issue except hugging the white right line on two lane roads and drive in right lane on multi lane roads also hugging the white line. .
+1 on the RPI guards. Priced right. A little flimsy and marginally effective but they make me feel like I'm at least doing something to reduce rock chips. Easy to install.
I'm on my second set of Apsis Stealth flaps. I had the right rear quarter and bumper cover repaired and the splash guard on that corner was torn and mangled. I had the entire car repainted along with the repair and wanted something for protection so I sprung for a new set. I looked at some of the more stylish versions but just couldn't rationalize the big ticket for something that is designed to take one for the team. So, I'll just do a new set of the Stealth flaps every few years.[\size]
I ran Altec splash guards and in fact, still have the rear ones on. I would not put them on again. They have to be attached with screws and the ones in front were always scraping or high centering on speed bumps or other road hazards.
The final straw was when I pulled onto the highway from a dirt parking lot and scraped the front splash guard which damaged part of the fender because of the way they were attached with screws. If you can find something that doesn't require drilling, I think your better off.
