WooHoo! I got around to checking the air filter and found out that the previous owners spec'd a K&N air filter. While cleaning it, though, I smelled and felt an awful lot of oil washing off of it. I had better hose down that poor Mass Airflow Sensor while I'm at it...
Yeah, the C5 is a bottom feeder, so it's not too uncommon to suck up a little bit of oil if the roads in your area are oily. It's probably not a bad idea to clean your MAF, but I would use MAF cleaner to do it. It's about $10.00 at most auto parts stores. Glad to hear you're taking good care of your car.
Well. Glad I took a look at the MAF. It wasn't bad, but it did make me feel better to clean it and the black plastic ductwork while I was in there. Mostly that screen was black! I don't remember doing my older K&N the last time, but I won't want to soak the filter enough to make it stink like oil. I will take it easy!
