Plenty of thread posts on the C5’s thin trunk opening as struts or latch spring age. Mine opened but I wanted a bit more space. I read here about wrapping some small compression springs around the lower strut ends and thought to give it a shot. $4 at ACE and yep, it pops just enough more from the tension to get my finger tips comfortably within to open. I picked what looked to have enough tension. You can try other gauges. I snipped the ends for easier wrapping and took just a few minutes. And I have two left over. Ha.

GREAT idea!!!! So simple, too. I just got new struts at Xmas (thank you, wife!!). But they still could use a little more gap. I must have at least 50 compression springs in the garage. Must be at least 1 or 2 pair that will work. I'm gonna check this out when I get home. Thanks for your post....
Interesting. I did the little popper spring on the striker mod to get some extra pop a few years back but I thought it looked gaudy with the trunk open so I took it off. This looks much better, and if the springs were black...

Agree, black would look better but you can spray some flat black or dip.
