So the C5 i picked up at auction showed up yesterday. Not a show piece by any means, but will be fun to play with.
the good- Has documentation on a bunch of engine work, pistons, cam, rockers, twin disc clutch, headers, some type of CAI, starts drives, stops. Seems to run and behave ok.
The Bad- just about every trouble code possible is on. after some searching it is highly likely the shocks were switched and either never had resistors put in, or may have failed. I dont have a lift to do much poking around underneath. but from my research the F45 stuff can be tuned out. I do not have a tech II, but i have most my GM stuff tuned by black bear and own their autocal. So i may go that route.
-The drivers side window switch is really inconsistent, works once, then wont again for 10 tries. I will pull the door apart this weekend and see what i find.
-the clutch seems to be very low to the floor, either fully engaged or not. From what i have read there isnt any adjustment, so that will be just a learning curve ( some of these items in the bad are really just me getting used to them )
- throttle response- seems like you have to give it more throttle than i would think for a response- this again can be addressed with a tune usually in drive by wire
-seals for the top are shot- those will need replacing
-body- passenger front fender is delaminating the clearcoat bad- i will wet sand it down and try and buff for now, but it needs to be re painted. lots of tar spots, light scratches, a few spots of hazing. all in all the car was not babied and put away under a cover.
My goal is to get it cleaned up presentable enough to enjoy it. will never be a show car, but a fun cruiser. I anticipate once i get used to it will be more enjoyable to drive. i took it out before the rain yesterday, and i seem to be lighting up the tires from every stop and not even on purpose.
Congrats on your new Vette, and welcome to the forum! Sounds like you have a pretty good idea what you're in for. I know it's not show quality, but we'd still love some pics. You can tune out the F45 shocks. Window regulators are a common issue on these cars, so that's probably your window issue. It's not too hard to fix. Good luck getting the car back in shape.
Don't forget to SAVE THE WAVE!!
I have a drivers window switch with memory seats that the skin is cracked but repaired in a place or two. Works fine. If it is your window switch you can have it if you pay for the shipping.
The body looks nice, and whatever's on there for wax is doing its job well. Looks good from 10 feet, yeah....
You're a braver man than I am, buying at auction. I paid top dollar for mine, and it was low-milage and babied ... I'm afraid that's coming to an end; she's going to live outdoors and I have plans for some big road-trips in the coming months. But you know, Corvettes are best at being fun cars -- as you found out, obviously.
"I seem to be lighting up the tires from every stop and not even on purpose." That's what I did while I was test-driving M6-trans Vettes. It's easy to jackrabbit, even with the A4 trans I've got. But a little more practice, and I'm sure you'll get the "feel" right.

I appreciate the offer. I have a new switch already.
It's rained solid since I got it, so I haven't even brought it home to clean yet.
So it's naturally been raining non stop since the car arrived. The targa top seal leaks, so I ordered a new one, the drivers window switch is here, maybe tomorrow.
I'm most anxious to get it home, give it a good bath and then get started on cleaning up the paint.
I think a light cut should bring it back.
I talked with blackbear, and they can tune out the F45 for me, as well as optimize the mods done to the engine. Hoping for improved throttle response from the tune as well. Once it's dry out I'll get out for some scan files.

Welcome to the forum. Unless the F45 suspension has been throwing codes, why would you want it tuned out?
