Hi guys, the time has come to replace the convertible top on my '02. I see multiple brands / distributors out there (Kee, Robbins, and Sierra - might be more I'm missing).
I'm looking for some first hand experiences you guys have had with your replacement tops (both brand and distributor).
I haven't replaced mine yet, but when I do, I have heard nothing but positive reviews on the Robbins top. Also suggest having a professional install the top and it's a good idea to purchase a new headliner at the same time.
I'm EXTREMELY happy with my replacement top. It looks, feels, and fit just like stock (except I have a lifetime warranty on the rear window. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what brand it is. I took the car to L&M auto top in Richmond, VA. They did a great job, and I'm very happy with it.
I'm not ready yet, but my glove-box sticker has the code for a Light Oak top and a previous owner changed to a black top.
I did get the top replaced on my 1999 Mits Eclipse. Unfortunately, that guy's out of business. There's another one closer to home, in the Airpark business park.
A second question for those who replaced theirs, did you order replacement weatherstripping at the same time? Mine is in good shape but the guy doing the install said he's not sure if it's glued in and could tear during removal.
I replaced the top on my 2001 with a Robbins brand in the original Haartz fabric. Very happy with quality and fit and didn’t need to replace the weatherstripping.
My advice would be to find a shop in your area that has lots of experience replacing C5 Corvette tops. If you find a reputable place with lots of Corvette experience, then you can trust them to source the best materials for the job. Perhaps you can post in your regional forum for shop recommendations.
I replaced mine about 18 months ago. The manufacturer was EZ On Tops. It is the original fabric and color (light oak). I did not get new headliner or weather stripping. I had it installed at an interior shop. The thing I like about it is that it has some sort of gasket around the rear window unlike the original where the glass is bonded to the fabric. I never had a problem with my glass falling out but I know that there have been numerous people who did.
Glad to see this thread revived, too. My Lt Oak top is still in pretty decent condition but I'm not really a fan of that color. What I really want is a Navy Blue top, to match my car's exterior. A shop I visited yesterday is going to change all my Lt Oak interior pieces to either Black or Navy Blue. He gave me a price of around $800 for a new top and approximately $600 for labor so probably $1500, with tax.
I was blessed to have a new top on mine when I bought it. Not sure of the brand but it is as good or better than OE. The local shop did the install and it is perfect.
A mouse hare a hole for the last owner and it turned to be a blessing for me as I really never considered roof condition as long as there were no holes.
I wish I knew what the brand was but no names or tags.
