My 2003 Anniversary Convertible has the sticky airbag syndrome. Totally Awesome cleaner removes the sticky but also removes the color leaving it black. Anyone know what color Sem product to use to match the original color?
Thanks in advance.
I watched a video of Lyle at C&S Corvettes talking about this, apparently on those editions they did in fact use a dye over the existing black. He mentions a few vendors for replacement dye in the video.
After I used Goof Off, I took some Rustoleum Supergloss Black spray paint. Spayed a generous amount on a paper shop towel (away from the car) and then blotted the paint onto the airbag cover. I did several coats. Let each coat dry before the next. Mine looks brand new. I did this without disassembling the airbag cover. I was just very careful to not get the paint on my seats or console etc.

Reason: Adding
I stumbled upon a fix for mine by accident. I had been trying everything, including the ammonia trick...goof off, even bug and tar remover. Out of the three, the bug and tar remover worked best, but it still was a very slow process. All the sudden I remembered that when I was going to put the corvette lettering on the passenger airbag cover, I sprayed alcohol on it and wiped it off to prep it. Much to my dismay, I had black on my rag and I knew I had taken some of the finish off. Luckily I didn't scrub and its not noticeable. I decided to try alcohol on my driver airbag to remove the sticky, since they seem to be the same material. I finally have a sticky free airbag! Took about 15 minutes, looks great.
