Default Time for rain tires

Drove the car in the rain today for the first time this year. Can you you say not much fun? Anyway I'll be calling TireRack and ordering something that's just a little better then the F1's in the rain.

yoko AVS's or toyo T1-Ss

Tirerack does not sell the toyos so try here:
http://www.treadepot.com/td.c/orders/index.html

$810+shipping for the toyos. Do a search and you should be able to find some info on them.

I have the TOYOs. The only difference between summer and winter in Germany is the temperature of the rain. The TOYOs are AWESOME in the RAIN, but they suck on the Hockenheim and Nurburg rings :) but like most tires they did get better on the track after some heat cycles and seasoning. On the road when going around a curve and hitting a bump they seem harder the the GY F1s, more willing to bounce the rear end out a little more, once you get used to it you can prepare youself if driving hard.

A good friend of mine who drives the wheels off his car switched to Michelin Pilot Sports and says they are worlds better in the rain, and sees no down side in the dry.

CALVette,
Up here we don't need rain tires we need water wings. Its been raining twelve hours straight with another 24+ hours of rain in the forecast. Has anyone got an ark for a Z06?

I hope it stops by next weekend because my baby is staying in the garage until then. :cry

Let me know how those rain tires work out. I may be in the market for some next year. :D

Regards,
John  :seeya

I like the Yoko AVS (run them on the '96 vert) in both the wet and dry applications. Also recently upgraded the Tahoe to Kumho STX and I understand that their performance tires are just as good as most out there. Drove the Tahoe roundtrip this week from BG to Mooresville, NC and back (including a few detours). Rain, freezing rain and all the good stuff we get this time of the year.

Tire Rack has a pretty good on-line customer survey website. Check it out and be the judge for yourself. Tires are like opinions....everybody has one.

How hard are you guys driving in the rain? I take it easy, particularly when there is ponding water, and so far, (knock on wood) things have been OK. I have also noticed with the advent of cold temperatures, tire adhesion is a joke.

Thought I would share this tidbit of information for those who's Z's are daily drivers, like mine, and are looking for another tire option.

I re-shoed both Z's with TOYO T1-S Proxes http://www.toyo.com/tires/index_frame.html for $1950, mounted and balanced. So far I am VERY happy with them. Face it, the F1's are NOT an all weather tire. I found them to be very dangerous in rain and snow!!

I have found the tread pattern to be very aggressive and works very well in rain. My dealer, who would sell me any tire I want, thinks that, just his opinion, they are the best tires on the market.

I like the fact that TOYO has built a protective lip around the bead to protect expensive wheels from curb damage.

I posted back in March 02 about my NASCAR type spin outs as a result of the SC tires. I reshoed with Toyos and have never regretted it. After a summer and fall of driving home in the heavy rain, the tires never failed me. I can drive 70 mph on the FL Turnpike through tire valleys in the road with total confidence. Heavy deluges with torrents of rain and 1 inch or more of puddling and I slow down. I do value my life and my car. Still love drivin it daily. By the way as a result of the last 5 k miles, I am convinced GM did a good job sealing the electronics and electricals on the C5. Better than the C4 I owned before.

Everyone is CA is going to need water wings this year as it looks like we're in the midst of a full blown En Nino condition.

The Toyo Proxes T1-S is availalble in OEM sizes, but I don't think the Yok AVS or Michelin Pilot Sport sizes cover both the front and rear OEM sizes.

Unless you can find a comparable tire to the Toyo in the OEM sizes, I'd recommend going with the Toyos as a "rain" tire.

I'd go with the Pilot Sports. They're just an excellent all around tire.

Big Stones - the Biggest Stones. I drove my 2000 FRC on a light snow rcovered oad suface that was icy. One of the scariest moments I ever had in a car. I got virtually no traction, and that was with the runflats. I can only imagine how the Z would handle.

If I were away, and it started snowing, I would hole up somewhere instead of driving in snow.

I can't even accelerate hard on these cold road surfaces without breaking loose, and that is when they are dry.
