Has any one replaced their C5 bumper cover? I bought a new one from GM, and had a local body shop paint and install it.
The new cover does not come cut to wrap around the skid bars/radiator support. There is a rib there. The body shop did not cut it in the middle of the bar opening, they cut it off to the side. Generally, the bar covers the cut.
Its not a big deal, but am wondering of there is a GM procedure for making the cut on the cover to wrap around the bars.
I'm not sure how asking for a GM Procedure on cutting the bottom of the bumper cover to wrap around the skid bars/radiator support makes this thread "Worthless"
I have a black car, here are the pictures you requested. I hope it helps.
I just did a bumper removal and reinstall. I laughed and laughed at how jank this cut is. On my bumper, it looks like a very slightly inebriated guy grabbed a set of shears and cut an almost good straight line, almost parallel to the frame rails. You might think GM would create a slot to just slide the bumper on - nope, it's just a cut. I am fairly sure that the cut is on the "inner edge" of the frame rail, so the inside (towards-center) of the bumper cover goes on trivially and the other side (towards outside) needs to be bent around the frame rail. I don't know what the procedure is, but I bet a cut-off disc set up for plastic would do the job. A body shop would probably know the right tool for the job.
