Since I had new interior replaced in my 2001 C5 Vert I had a experience when I was on a trip to the Washington Coast, well I stopped for fuel and WALLA the gas cap wood not open. I did not have knowledge about how to open the cap with the cable in the trunk Well after sitting in the parking lot with the Hood, Both Doors, and the Trunk Lid open and not accomplishing a damn thing for about 20 minutes and just sitting in the Vet and scratching my head, a fella walked up to me and and said " looks like you got a problem. After I told him the story he just reached in to the trunk and WALLA , the gas cap is OPEN Their are not enough thanks for this kind of help. This is where I need help !! I had removed the interior to have it upgraded by a upholstery shop and got it all installed by myself. The gas cap will not open, I have checked the fuse and it is OK, I checked to make all the wiring got put back the way it was supposed to be an all seems to be OK. I will appreciate very much any an all advise.
THANK YOU
Fredd
The vette I bought, previous owner said the gas door switch didn't work. I put a little oil on the piston. Moved it by hand a few times. now it works fine.
Pull the center console armrest assembly, the connector that plugs into the gas door release switch is a tough one to get hooked back up some times. You may have got it partially connected but not fully seated.
Reconnect it and test before installing the console.

The wiring going to that switch is pretty short and the connection is at a 90 degree angle. It would be the first thing I'd look at.
I agree that the wires are short and the plug may have become disconnected.
Couple of suggestions. If you have an owner's manual and it is in the car, it can be referenced for such problems. Another option is if you have a smart phone you can do a search. Not trying to insult. Lots of times people forget the basics when under pressure. Family friend called in a panic one time that he couldn't get into his car because the battery must be dead in the fob. Told him to put the key in the door lock and turn it. He was embarrassed that he didn't think of that before calling. It happens...
