Default A few stupid questions

I recently bought a 2003 Z06 after owning a 2002 EB Z06 for 6 months and have a few questions.

First, what temp does your Z run at? The 2003 fluctuates between 200 and 220 and I mean fluctuates! I notice that at idle I can cause the temp to go up and down 20 degress by whether or not the clutch is engaged. This happens in any weather and appears to be strange to me.

Second, the exhaust sound is quite a bit different in the 2003. I am not talking "jingles", I am talking the basic sound at all rpms. I liked the 2002 sound a lot better.

Third, the car does not appear to be as quick as the 2002. I only have 425 miles on the 2003 but the 2002 was quicker at any mileage level. I do not run the cars at the track so this only my impression.

Fourth, the build quality on the 2003 is not as good as the 2003. The paint is worse ( is it ever good on GM car?) and the fit of the doors is awful.

Maybe I got a great 2002 and a lemon 2003 but I am little worried.

I can only answer # 1- our '01 coupe and '02 Z06 both fluctuate temperature like yours. I'd say it's normal. :seeya

I just received my 03 last nite and it is my first Corvette experience post 1969 vintage. The temp. question I can address in that engines are more efficient the hotter they run as long as you are below say 245. The only problem with this type of heat would be the problem with underhood temps. warming the intake charge In my opinion I would rather run at 200 to ensure efficeint combustion and also to ensure that water etc. was being purged from the engine through evaporation.
As for quality, when the car was top shelf in the Passport I noticed an abundance of aluminum etc. components all off which looked as though they ment for nothing but buisness. I realize that many people are critical of switch gear and the interior in general. Again, in my opinion I would rather see a built drivetrain coupled with a plastic heater control rather than the alternative. As someone who has been involved with pre 73 muscle cars for 10 years I am impressed, personally, with the build quality of my car. I am sure there are problems but I don't expect perfection for 50 K. Needless to say, I am very happy with the car.
As for speed, I have 6 whole miles so far and really nothing to compare it to.
Good Luck, Mike

My 2002 (unmodified) holds water temp at 190 all the time in cold weather. When it is really hot, the temp will go above that, but the fan comes on and cools it right down. There is no "fluctuation" at all. I would bet you have a faulty sensor or electronic/electrical glitch. Take it to a dealer with a good C5 tech.
