Default Oil

I changed oil a thousand miles ago and now the car is giving Change Oil required with 4% life remaining. I used Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil. What can cause the oil to go down this fast? Or is there another problem I need to address. I have a 2004 Z06. Thanks for your help, Jim

You have to manually reset the oil life indicator. I'm willing to bet that it wasn't reset on the last oil change.

I don't believe the C5 has the meter that calculates time, if been long since been changed I'm inferring.

Thank you, searched Internet and came up with procedures, part of which was to press Trip button (doesn't work for this). I pressed Reset button and released when it showed 100%, restarted car and everything is fine.

Glad you figured this out. However, you really want to do that reset right after the oil change. You're definitely going to want to change your oil again before the change oil indicator comes on.

The Mobil oil says it is good for 20,000 miles. But will change it every 5,000.
