I have a question for the folks that have had a dyno tune on their car. What was the cost?
I have a 2000 coupe with the A&A supercharger on it and contacted a dyno shop in the area about doing a dyno tune. He quoted me $700. Is that around the average cost for a tune?
A dyno is one thing, a tune is another. There are several ways of tuning.
A dyno and a street tune ( when you and the tuner and a computer ride around town
and tune), A dyno tune cost more because of the dyno (it self.
Just to use a dyno to check rwhp/hp 100 bucks or so.
Dyno tune 700 is a good price for a Y2k. If you had a newer car 1500 to 2000
bucks.
Good luck.
$700.00 is a bit steep to me. I would be looking closer to $500.00. However, it's really not something that you want to cheap out on. if they're the only really good tuner in town, pay the $700.00. Does you car already have a tune? With the A&A kit, you really shouldn't drive it without a tune. It it has a tune, then why do you want to have it retuned?

$700 is about right for a boosted setup from someone who really knows what they are doing... my guy charges about the same but he also does multiple checks to make sure everything is in proper working condition before he even starts tuning... many shops will just tune whatever is brought to them so if there is a mechanical issue a tune will not fix that

stay out of boost and he should be fine, I drove my car for a week or 2 before having it tuned after I installed my blower just to make sure everything was good to go
Those prices are in line with what I paid. Around here dyno time is $5-700. Mine was close to $700 but I had them tune the car and program some other features in which take additional time. However, now that the shop has a baseline, the next time I go in (say I add headers or change the cam or something) it will be less than $200 since they are working off of their initial setup. Good tuners are worth the money. I only have Borla mufflers and the zip tie mod on my '03 Z06 (I race in a stock class) and was able to get 375hp 370tq to the tire with just a tune.
Call around and get some quotes even if there a bit out of range. This might give you a better ideal what it cost around ur area. That's what i did. If u could try to research the shop on there history of good and bad experiences that will be a good starting point. The tune is the # one thing to where you're going to love to drive your car or throw it off a cliff. I'll show u pile of cars if your ever n the neighbor.

You are close enough to A&A to just drive over and have them tune it. Worth the ~3 hour drive.
Well guys, I had the tune done today. The basic tune that they include with the A&A kit had me at 490rwhp when I arrived at the shop. After they did their tune magic and several pulls later My 2000 C5 has 508rwhp on a conservative tune. The car is definitely much more responsive, and feels better from off idle all the way up to 6300. (which is where I had them set the limiter) The parts that I have on the car are a set of Blackheart smog legal shorty headers, a Magnaflow 15660 Cat back exhaust and of course the A&A V3si CARB legal Supercharger with the included 60# injectors, 3.8" pulley etc. All of this going through a 4L60E with a TransGo shift kit and 3.42 gears out back. Makes for a fun driver, that's not too fast, but just quick enough to get me in trouble in less then 5 seconds.
I have to say, all though it was only a total of 18 more horsepower, the responsiveness and overall positive feel of the car makes me a believer in having a dyno tune done to bring a good running car to life and change the cars overall attitude.

I agree. They run $500-$600 in Michigan. OP-DON'T give them any ideas 💡 !!!! That said, some places are better than others. This seems to be one place where you don't always get what you pay for. I'll mention the fact that I have no vested interest in any dyno tune shops. That said, in Michigan, my go to place is Motorcity speed/Rich Gala. Rich knows his stuff. In Florida, if I was going to have my car dyno tuned/street tuned, I'd go to Howard Tanner@Redline Motorsports. His reputation is so high, if I lived 300 miles from him, I'd enjoy the drive there, and let him do his stuff. Other than these 2 places, I have no opinions. Good luck, OP....

I know a GM shop in south Jersey is around $600-700 for a tune and dyno pulls. They also are very reputable and stand by their work.

How do you like the headers? I'm basically just about done doing the exact same setup since I'm in California too, last thing I need to do before getting the dynotune done(just driving around on the supplied conservative safe A&A tune) is get a set of legal headers. Since we're screwed in California my plan was to go with a set of LS7 manifolds for the most flow with my requirements, but I wasn't ruling out aftermarket carb legal sets.

The Blackhearts are one of the only CARB legal headers that we have a choice of here in Cali. I was looking into some Dougs headers that were supposedly legal as well, (and much less expensive) but could not find them anywhere. However I am very pleased with the Holley Blackhearts that I have. They are stainless and very well constructed, so they will never rust. They flow pretty good for shorty headers, and if I recall correctly, they are a bit better than the factory manifolds, especially at the higher RPM's. The guys that did my tune were JEP Performance, and they did a great job. Josh was the tech, and he really knows what he is doing. I am very pleased with the way my baby responds now, and I figured this is about all I could do here in the state without running into trouble with the CARB police. Just a bit over 500rwhp, is enough to keep me smiling when I get behind the wheel, so I have no complaints.
Aside from buying hptuners I paid the credits and gas money. Tune my own, much better than a dyno tune.
A dyno tune in most cases is a canned tune dumped in, then a WOT (wide open throttle) tune which is a fraction of drivability.
A proper street tune records all while driving over an extended time and makes changes based on the file. WOT can be dialed in on a street tune along with all the rest. Higher quality than a few wide open blasts on a dyno roller that doesn’t match rollers spinning to a real car on the road.
