My rear view mirror glass is all messed up. Is it possible to replace just the glass? It looks like it’s ‘captured’ by the plastic housing. I’m sure I can break the old one to get it out, but will a new one snap right in? I’m just not finding info on glass replacement only. The posts I’ve found deal with replacement of the whole housing.
Assuming you have the electrochromatic mirror, you can get just the glass, but it is very expensive. I opted to just get the stick on regular mirror glass for a few bucks. Last I looked, the auto dimming one was like $300+ and that just wasn't worth it to me.

I’m not sure if it’s auto dimming or not. If it is, I’ll just replace with plain glass.
The stick on approach is a good option, but I’d still like to know if & how the glass can be replaced.
Thank you very much- I have been putting this off and living with the messed up auto-dimming mirror for 4 years. Made in USA- and the improved panoramic rear view- sold me. I'm looking forward to looking behind!
I have auto-dimming/memory/heated. When the glass went bad, I just bought a replacement GM memory/heated. Depends on where you find it will be in the $100 range +_

Here is a file on replacing the glass on the outside rear view mirror. I have also included a couple of other files that may help, but I did not check them over first - just went by the file name.

Good info here, - thank you! But I’m still a little confused. Member Stingroo says it’s not possible to replace JUST THE GLASS. Meaning you can’t put new glass into the black plastic backing housing. But you can purchase JUST the glass. I would still like to hear from other members on this.
Cleaning the liquid from between the two pieces of glass like in the 3rd document would eliminate the autodimming feature. So you can't replace just the glass AND keep the auto dim. Rather than go through all that headache to get the same result, my stick on mirror has survived two years, 20,000 miles, and 150mph on multiple occasions.

I don’t care about the heat or auto-dim feature. The question was (and still is) whether it is possible to replace JUST the glass in the black plastic surround/backing piece. You said it’s not possible. Other info seems to suggest it can be done.
Stick-on is still an option. But I’d like to keep the OE look if I can.

"If you're talking about replacing JUST the glass itself and using the original black trim around it, no, can't be done."
is this what your looking for?? or im i not understanding you??

Yes, that’s what I want to know. I’m getting conflicting info. Ive been told to heat the black trim to remove the glass, then glue in a new piece. Has anyone on here done this?
