Default 99 C5 Exhaust and performance

Just bought a 99 FRC with 20.000miles on it. I have big plans for this car but since money dont grow on trees and partdealers dont do cherety, i have to be smart on how i use my money. So....

Oem exhause on my car is like new...

Underneath my 99 FRC with 20.000miles
How mutch power can it handle before i need to do headers and so on? I was thinking cutouts wold give me the rumble.... If i do the mufflers "passtrough" mod as well and change the tips it wold sound ok?

Rear diff

Also can anyone tell me what type rear diff i have.. What gearing?

Also do all FRC have the Z51 handling pack or not? I will track this car so im interested in knowing what swaybars i shuld get and from where? I will go KW V3 or Clubsport... Any bushings i shuld exchange at the same time?

Thanks in advance for all your help! I will get seats, breaks and so on but it seem seats are difficult now... Cant find Corbau a4 anywhere? Any other seats u recomend?

You have the 3.42 rear gears, which is what all manual tranny cars came with. You can do headers at any time and they would be a nice addition to the car for performance gains. You might want to get a tune to help maximize the power boost if you do install headers.

Thanks for the reply!

So the bottleneck is the headers? The rest of the oem exhaust is ok to handle lets say a blower?

Getrag units for the C5 all have the gear ratio on the affixed label. It may, or may not, be accurate anymore. I'm assuming you have a 6 speed, because A4 cars had 2.73 gears standard, 3.15 was optional, and the 3.42 was for M6 cars. If you have an A4 car, it means someone has changed the diff at some point, hopefully one from a Z06. As for a performance exhaust, if you want a small increase from a cheap source other than headers, the 2001(?) and newer cars have better flowing exhaust manifolds, and all 2001 and newer C5s have the Z06 intake. Hope this helps.....

Thanks for your feedback. I remember in my 200sx days (180sx/silvia in us i think) we knew how mutch power you culd get out of oem parts befor you had to change intake, downpipe and so on... My "goal" is to get a blower, but i dont want to throw money at the car if i dont have to! I do love me some V8 rumble but 2500$ for exhaustsystem is alot of money.... Maby doing headers and the passtrough upgrade on the pipes is ok... Wold cutouts do anything for performance on these?

So z06 intake and manifoil culd also work... But where do you get this for a fair price?

I have an A&A kit on mine making 500WHP. When I put my A&A kit on, my entire exhaust was bone stock. I have currently swapped out for the Ti exhaust from a Z06. This flows a bit better, and sounds better at WOT. I do plan on headers in the future, but my setup works just fine as is. The headers will add about 40WHP when combined with the rest of my mods. As for sway bars, I would recommend C6 Z51 sway bars (make sure that you have metal end links). While doing that, swap out to C6 Z06 shocks as well (or go for a full coil over swap). If you are looking for big power, you'll certainly want to upgrade your clutch. One of the most important things for you will be good Summer tires. All the power in the world is useless if you can't get it to the ground. For Brakes, I would start by just upgrading the pads. If you get to the point where that isn't enough, Wilwood makes a 6 piston set that will fit the stock rims. Congrats on the car. I hope it brings you many miles of smiles. Let us know if you have any questions we're always happy to help.

Yes all FRC came with 6 speed trans, 3.42 rear axle and Z51 suspension. However the 2000-2004 Z51 suspension had larger sway bars. For improved handling I would suggest you go with the C6 Z51 front bar and the later C5 Z51/Z06 rear bar, Great handling and a used C5 rear bars are often a bargain. If you are going to a SC, and the added weight, in the future I would suggest a C6 Z06 shock as they were made for the added weight in the front for the 427 engine otherwise the Bilstein DRM shocks are better for handling.

Thanks guys for all the great info. Since i live in Norway im thinking maby better to just buy new swaybars.. Since dealing with private sellers can be a hazzle...

What brand swaybars do you recomend?

I have 2 headlights used awailable. From a seller in austin Texas. His name is Carlos... He comfirmed its his lights on the picture by putting date and name on a note and took a pic.... But he dont want to use paypal goods payment as paypal keeps the money and he needs some of it for shipping.. I suggested sending shippingcost by friends and fam and the rest as goods... To be a bit safe. He is asking 350$ for the sett... Sounds ok?

Is there any bushings you recomend changing for poly? Iv seen many change the rubber under the diff/tranny?

Im buying KW V3 or Clubsport coilovers 👍
