I have not seen the car, but a friend of a friend is selling a 2003 quicksilver z06, M6, 29k miles. If I buy it for 17.5, and want to get out of it after the summer, could I get my price+6.5% sales tax back? Based on everything used being so overpriced today, this sounds like a good deal. But once the insanity passes, I don't want to take a bath on it. Thoughts? (I could also end up loving the car and keeping it, but I'd like to know my out)
'03 with 30K miles for 17.5K?! Just make sure it runs and the transmission and engine are good, also the clutch, check for torque tube scraping sounds, check the computers (ABS, TCS), check the tires (tread and expiration). Even if you have to do rotors, or do full fluids or window motors... you are still under market. (honestly with like 4K to play with you could fix even expensive issues like a clutch or tires) Oh and the fuel! Didn't '03s have the really hard to access fuel pump? If the fuel is varnished/dirty from sitting (or obviously if the pump doesn't work) you might want to pass (could probably still make money if you dropped the tank yourself though).
Assuming it's in good condition the car is worth at least 21K right now even from a private seller, probably more. In my market you would see these listed at like 22 - 24K (and that was in the winter when I was looking).
The mileage is very low without being 'collector car low' silver is not the best color for resale but you have some wiggle room for sure.

Reason: more stuff
A lot of variables. My best guess is an almost sorta strong maybe. Or you could buy and sell right away, then just take a bath in whatever profit you get. 😁 If all's well that's an easy two to potentially more than a few thousand. What are you driving at the moment?

Just sold my daily 5th gen camaro to Carvana. My 19 Z isn’t going anywhere. Was looking to get a 16 or 17 daily driver v6/4turbo camaro, when this came up. Again, having not seen the car, I have no idea other than word of mouth. My understanding is it’s a clean, well maintained car. I figure I’d drive it for a few months, a couple road trips with my wife, and maybe sell it before I have to store it.
Ok I see. I'd personally prefer the c5z over the 4/6 cyl camaro. The gas mileage is relatively similar and the Z is a Z. Not sure what 16/17 base camaros are going for, but you'd probably pay more than you would for the Z and more than likely not get what you paid back for it if/when you sell it.
As long as the car is not in need of some expensive repairs, you should be able to flip the car in the fall and do OK price wise.
we’re supposed to meet later this afternoon. I’d love a C5Z over a LT camaro of course, but won’t get excited until I see and drive the car. I’ll keep you guys posted. Thanks for all the responses
No go. Older gentleman with the ability to somehow damage every panel on the car throughout the years, mostly recent years. Mechanically ok, but about 4 shades of quicksilver paint on the car. I believe the roof was the only panel that was factory original. Plus, his wife, kids, grandkids all want him to sell, but 2 minutes into our conversation and I could tell he’s not ready to sell that car. I’m a car guy and I understand.

Sounds like a very good price for 29k miles. BUT-Unless you're willing to stick your neck out, don't plan on breaking even, or making money on a seasonal vehicle. I'm sure you'll get your money back, but you may have to wait until, maybe next Spring? No definitive answer. Can't imagine taking a bath on it if it's in good shape, stock, and actual miles. Best of luck to you......

Stick with your plan and find a nice one. I had a C7 Z06 that I sold but still have my ZLE Camaro and a 03 Z06 and its a great car. I don't daily it but do drive it to work at times which is over 80 miles each way. I have a Q50 S that handles most of that duty with 400hp and still not crazy about it but couldn't imagine doing it with a 4 cylinder.
Sorry it didn't work out. Are you talking about paint damage, or actual cracks and holes in the panels. If it's just paint, the price is cheap enough that you could throw a wrap on it and still do okay.

Nothing major on the body, just had been repainted several times. Not due to abuse, just an older gentleman who doesn't see obstacles too well anymore, hence his family pressuring him to sell. He has no intention of selling, that became apparent a couple minutes into our conversation. Nor do I want to be the one who takes his joy away. Not that nice of a car to fight over. Let him park it it enjoy it.
