If you have the part, it's supposed to be a pretty simple procedure.
My old column had the lock plate completely removed. I replaced it, and the new one does not, so I have an LMC5 on order myself.

This happened for first time last weekend. I disconnected the battery then hooked up a quick start jump to battery and as soon as I did hooked up the quick jump I heard the lock cylinder disengage. I replaced the battery but the hood light was left on and I'm hoping doing the quick start will disengage it again?

It should. This happened to me as well actually on Thursday before I left for work. That's why I ordered the LMC5. The car cranked right up but it was just enough that the column lock was upset.
