Not if you have zero intention of ever selling it.

If I wanted another C5 I would look for a car with no mods. That’s just me. I currently have a 2004 Convertible with 27,000 CARFAX miles. It’s 100% stock except for the tires. I think every owner should do whatever they like. It’s their car and their money.

These arent investment cars. I wouldnt worry about 15 yrs from now , sheesh make the car you want and enjoy it.

Theres no 1 type of buyer so what you do or dont doesnt matter. Cost of registering, insuring etc will exceed its worth most likely. The best guarantee you wont lose anything is to sell now and get a nice pic..not being a smartazz but we see this a lot. Mass produced car owner hoping it will be a collectible...wont drive it only to get a few more k come sell time.

Lots of the 2 youngest gens arent interested in having a drivers license at all, my bet would be boomer cars wont be on their intinerary. Electric cars will be perfected and most will own one.

Good points. So I will "personalize" it, enjoy it, and not worry about it's value.
Thanks all.

Here's something I tell people, some get it, some don't, "You make or lose money when you buy a car, not when you sell it."
A few simple personal mods won't hurt.

My question is; Do modifications reduce the value?
I'd like to personalize it, maybe some stripes, something subtle, not too outrageous.
Possibly an exhaust system, at least cat back.
The thing is I want it to retain it's value, I view it partly as an investment that I can enjoy, but I don't want to lose money on it in 15 years or so.
I can only speak for myself, but here's my 2 cents. I run, not walk from any car with after market exhaust headers.

Though, I once test drove a C6 vert with headers. WHAT!!!? I said, i once test drove a C6 vert with headers. WHAT!!!? Test drove. C6. Headers. WHAT!!!? I can't hear you because this C6 with headers is so freaking loud!!! No sale. No way.

if your mods are line lock and drag radials then yeah probably....

mods are customer dependent, if they like them then you are probably OK but if not its gonna hurt the value for that buyer

If it's too loud, you're too old.

Short answer, no.

Mods may decrease the pool of buyers that will buy the car but that is not a measure of demand.

If there are one thousand people "interested " in buying a car, that is not demand.

Demand is one person paying an amount for a car.

I paid more than book value for my car because of the mods.

In general, mods reduce the value of a Corvette by the cost of the mod.
