Default Hole in Plastic Behind Head Unit

Hello,
I'm working my way through a HUD upgrade/install, HVAC dim display and DD head unit install. As I was looking at removing the support bracket for the stock stereo, I noticed a hole in the plastic behind where the head unit is. I believe its the blower housing? I've attached a Pic of the hole.Any ideas what could have caused this? I'm pretty sure the dash has never been apart until today.

It looks like buying a new housing and replacing it will be quite a bit of work, so what would the best way of patching this be? Some strips of plastic attached over the hole with epoxy?

Im sorry but really, duct tape. obvious it wasn't doing any ill effect so tupe or leave it.. don't yell at me.

Looks like someone was messing around the radio and maybe damage that while they were doing it. The bracket for the radio is pretty scratched. You could probably just glue a small piece of plastic or aluminum over that hole.

It's behind the head unit where nobody will ever see it. I agree with the duct tape opinion.

Thanks guys.

I agree the scratches on the bracket are odd, maybe happened during some warranty/service work years ago. I know the previous two owners have never had the stereo out or done any mods to the car.
I have some 1" wide black gorilla tape that sticks to everything like crazy, so will try that for now and hope it holds up.

Probably had a different head unit in there and had to cut a hole to get the RCA cables to clear.

Have you run the blower on high speed to see if anything actually comes out when it's on?

Hmmm. Wonder if there might have been an aftermarket head unit that got hot. Hole cut to get some cooling????? Just guessing. It's pretty obvious someone has been in there before.

I have not, I haven't heard any noises like pieces rattling around in there, but also have no idea how long it has been like that.

Not cur or melted, more like punctured. The one "rib" sticks into the hole area, and the edges are jagged and irregular.
This was my dads car before me and I've done all the maintenance on the car, so the radio hasn't been out in the last 10 years. The previous owner I think was the original owner, had the window sticker framed even. He barely drove the car, so don't see him installing a stereo.

Main thought is some warranty work was done on the hvac system or something, and that is when this happened. Definitely a mystery, and one that will probably never really be solved.
