I am a new Vette owner and would love some guidance on my new purchase. I have a black 2001 ZO6 that has 93K on it and has some minor upgrades, The guy I bought it from did the cat back exhaust, MSD ignition and plugs, fresh Mobil one, new AC unit and lines, new slotted rotors and ceramic pads, oil separator, LED lights all round, new blue tooth head unit, speakers and a bunch of interior trim pieces. The clutch he didn't know about, but seems pretty healthy. Runs great with no smoke or hiccups. The only things I would like to address is some weather striping, which is an eye-opener in costs, the back glass trim $ and the drivers side seat cushion, etc. Any insight on web sites and part numbers?
Welcome to the world of the "Corvette tax". Almost everything is more expensive than for a regular car. However, you have to remember that your car is getting ready to be 22 years old in just a couple of months.
I purchased seat foam from Mid America MotorWorks $79 delivered, SKU 624012.
There are lots of companies that part out Vettes. Locally, for CA, I do not know of any but nationally just run a google search for "used Corvette parts". AEScorvetteparts.com has a pretty good selection. There is also vettenuts.com.
Occasionaly there are part outs here in the "Parts for Sale" forum and you can always post a WTB (want to buy).
Welcome, and congrats on the new Z. When it comes to weather stripping, OEM is generally best. But, 22 years later, this may not always be an option. If you can find OEM pieces they are worth the cost (provided that they have been stored indoors and are not dry-rotted from age).
Welcome to the forum! Congrats on your car. Sounds like you made a good purchase. Before you replace the weather stripping, I would try applying a bit of dielectric grease to it. As long as it isn't actually torn or completely rotted away, this will usually refresh the seals and make them supple again. Even if you do end up replacing the weather stripping, it's a good idea to apply dielectric grease at least once a year or so. Please post up some pics of your car. We'd love to see it. I hope that it brings you many miles of smiles.
