Hi all. Been meaning to ask this for awhile. Bought a 98 C5 a year or so ago and has this type shifters ****. Photo found on web but is exactly what I have. Can somebody tell me what type it is eg. short throw, etc and who makes it? I original wanted to replace it with stick know but seems like it’s not removable.
just wanted to know. Ill keep this one on .
thanks
Sorry, I do not have this **** but had a similar situation with the aftermarket one on the car I bought. There was no visible way to remove it, So after trying to unscrew it with my hands with no luck, I bought a pair of mega vise clamps at HD and finally was able to remove it. Destroyed the **** but accomplished my goal.
I don't think the **** has any relevance to the type of shifter it's screwed onto. The cue ball ***** can be placed on any shifter shaft with the appropriate thread size.
If you pop the shift boot ring and turn the boot inside out like a sock (over the ****) you'll likely find a locking nut that needs to be loosened under the boot. In this case (if memory serves) you'd loosen the shifter from the nut by actually tightening the nut under the boot. This will relieve the tension between the nut under the boot and the shifter ball. Then you should be able to unscrew the shifter ****.
You may be able to tell which shifter is in the car by the shaft once you lift the boot. Otherwise you will need to remove the center console to see which shifter it is.
