Anyone have any experience adding sound deadening/insulation to the trunk area of a Z06? I recently got a '02 Z06 with a Borla exhaust system, love the sound but on the long trips the constant droning is wearing me down and the luggage is as hot-as-hell at the end of the trip! Was thinking that aluminum/foam sticky insulation under the trunk liner may cut some of the sound and heat. Universal cut-and-fit stuff, sold by the sheet/roll, I think you can even get it in the big box stores in the HVAC department. Any other suggestions would be appreciated and, yes, I do already have the embroidered bulkhead between the passenger compartment and trunk area. Thanks in advance for your help!
I'm cheap, so I simply used dynamat-type stuff (mines call Kilmat) which is just a block of squares I laid down inside after pulling up the carpet. It was about $80. Worked for me.
I would advise against the Home Depot HVAC stuff, it smells for weeks before it goes away. But you are correct, it will work, just stinks for a while.
I too used the kilmat in the back and in the seating compartment. It works well! Be careful with what you use because some put out a smell when they get hot. The kilmat does not and is easy to work with. Buy it from Amazon and get after it.
another approach against heat is a blow molded picnic type ice chest called the 24 can party stacker, by Coleman.. Looks very much like any generic picnic ice chest except these are not tall and the lid is thin, not going to insulate as well as the sides. It's pretty much just a blow molded insulated box with a lid, no hinges, but it was only $20.
It works well enough to keep things from getting objectionably warm, but I always considered the sun the major heat source in the trunk, never considered the exhaust., as some here have mentioned.
I have an aftermarket axle back flow master system, if that matters.
I also have a convertible, so I never have to look at the thing except when in use, so that helps with the not stylish looks.

I used B-Quiet materials on my black 99. There are two types of materials, sound deadener and sound absorbing. Most people just use sound deadener which was developed to stop rattles and such. It does quiet the car down some and also cuts down on the heat. Sound absorbing materials do just that, absorb sound. It does it quite well and does a good job at cutting down on heat. Here are some photos of my install. It was pretty easy to do, just time consuming. I did it because my exhaust was way too loud. This made a huge difference!

Wow you went nuts with the sound deadener. I was under the impression you only need 25% panel coverage to see a benefit from sound deadener. Sound absorption mat on the other hand should be 100% coverage.
