Sticky vinyl

Not sure where this goes.....General or Technical.....but:

The pad of the air bag in the steering wheel on my 98 Convertible is starting to get sticky. It's almost like the vinyl is breaking down or something....not really sure. Windex and purple stuff don't work to clean it. How can I clean this or un-stickafy it without taking the black color off?

Any ides? I hate to think I have to replace the air bag.

The above post has some great advice, but what ended up working for me was rubbing alcohol and about 20 minutes of scrubbing, came out great!

I used the lemon ammonia and it worked great for me. Followed with Aero 303. Looks like a brand new one now.

I like it better than Goo Gone. It is not as slimy if that is the term that best describes Goo Gone.
