I have been pondering this for a while, modify my C5 (2000 6sp, 48k on the odo) currently have a FAST intake, long tube headers and a B&B axel back, but I’m wondering if its cost effective to go to the next level (heads, cam) or sell the car and look for a C6 Z06 ??
First issue is finding a capable mechanic to do the work, and get a cost estimate, any feed back would be appreciated.

Thanks

P.S. Located in NE PA, so if you know of a qualified shop, let me know.

It depends on many variables. The C6 Z06 is a tremendous car......If you don't drop a valve. I have transplanted an LS7 into my 2000 C5. Unlike many who experienced the worn guides issues these engines seem to have (I say 'seem' because not all LS7 engines have worn out guides in low mile engines), I had mine treated to a very high quality, guides concentric to valve seats valve job, on a Serdi machine, from the beginning. 20,000 miles later, all 16 guides were out of spec, and 7 of the 8 Titanium intake valves were losing their CrN coatings. Long story short, if you do buy an C6 Z06, be prepared to spend money to pull the heads for an inspection and possibly another 'fix', even if the heads were just 'fixed' 20,000 miles ago. I can't speak about anything to do with the car itself, because, as I said earlier, my LS7 is in my 2000 C5 vert. Hope this helps you some.......

The choice is really up to you, but I can tell you what I chose. Several years ago I had a choice between a C7 or going all in on my C5. I chose the C5. I put in an A&A supercharger, and have been doing mods ever since. I don't regret my decision for a second. I have 500 HP at the rear wheel (C6Z06 has 505 HP at the crank). The car drives great, and at this point I certainly would not trade it for a C6 Z06. The only downside is that the resale value of my car is much lower than a C6 Z06. However, that really doesn't matter to me. Because when I decided to go all in on the C5, I also made the decision that I wasn't ever going to sell it. As it stands, I have a 17 year old car that can run with anything short of a C7 Z06. Hope this helps you with your decision.
