UPS shipping cost prohibitive
Thanks,
Jeff
Then when I delivered the tires to their office the next day, they said the price would $360! I remembered that I had an old FedEx Account and asked if that would make a difference? Once they brought up my account, they said, "Good News, with that account number, the cost would only be $204"! I thought, great because I could refund the buyer the difference (since I felt guilty that the shipping was almost as much as the tires)! Then she said, "Oh wait, these are not in boxes, so the cost would be $284" (and that is what the final receipt she gave me said). When the charge finally appeared on my credit card it was $296!!! So I got to eat about $40 on that sale vs break even on shipping.
I had a previous run in with FedEx about 20 years ago which was a nightmare. I had ordered a $12,000 Tektronix Printer and the shipping was $2,000 (but paid for by Tektronix on their FedEx account - included in price), When the printer arrived, the whole top of the wooden crate was smashed in. I called Tektronix and they said to go ahead and accept delivery and they would send me a replacement printer same day and they would have a FedEx adjuster come out to assess the damage so they could get a refund. One month later the adjuster came out and they finally picked up the damaged printer/crate. Several months later I noticed that FedEx had reported a delinquent $2,000 charge to my credit reports!!! My FedEx account was never even associated with that transaction! FedEx said that Tektronix refused to pay for the replacement shipment so they charged it to MY FedEx account (although they never told me about it or sent me a bill). I said what would you have done if I had not had a FedEx account? They said "We would not be able to do anything"? So just the fact that I had a FedEx account caused me to go through 3 years of trying to get that ding off my credit report!
I think it is time to cancel my account.
