if you had a C5 and a C6 just looking at the radio bezel on each tells the story !!
Yup, the absurd gap between the radio bezel and the rest of the car. The gap on the door panels between the door and the dash. The insanely cheap looking, creeky plastic on the dash..the grandma steering wheel... on and on. Except for the gauges, there really isn't anything in the c5 interior that isn't cheap / poorly assembled.
The c6 addressed a lot of those issues , but is still not a shinning example of a great interior.
Wow.....as I expected. If THAT is what is bothering people, I am lucky. I just don't see that as a very obvious and unacceptable thing. Funny.....people are bothered by this, and it seems very few are bothered by the extremely poor and caved in rear bumper cover fit to the body on almost EVERY C5 I see. I guess we all have our things.
The fact that it doesn't bother you doesn't make it a quality interior . Heck, I love fried spam on buttered toast. But that doesn't change the fact that it's crap food.
And it's not just the gap at the head unit bezel. just about every panel in the interior has half inch gaps. the materials are cheap -- practically the entire interior is plastic, and cheap plastic at that. Again, this is objective, not subjective.. They creak. They crack over the years. The leather on the seats and boot shifters are super low quality leather (objectively, not subjectively.) The seats rock. They creak (if yours don't, they will). The steering wheel .. my god, what grandma car parts bin did that come from? (ok, that ones subjective). Maybe the interior doesn't bother you but really, would it stand up -objectively- for a second in terms of quality of materials and fit and finish compared to say, a contemporary Porsche? Not a chance. the c7 and c8? sure. you may not subjectively like the gizmos, but the fit and finish and quality of the materials is head and shoulders above the c5 and c6, and stand toe to toe with other modern sports cars.
The c5 interior is really the low point of the car. It's cheap with horrible tolerances. And this isn't an age thing, it was ridiculed and panned even when it first came out.
Still one of my favorite generations though.

Yeah…..don’t agree and don't care. Its simply a matter of opinion.

I guess I'm an outlier - I sat in a C6 once, I thought the interior was worse than the C5 - mostly fisher-price grade plastics. Steering wheel from a Chevy Cobalt. The C5 seats aren't great though. Mine is rocking pretty bad, feels like it could come loose. But then I'm also used to the interior of a mid 90's Chevy Tahoe.
This is really only an issue on the older C5. The newer C5 EBCM can be repaired. Plus, at least for now, new replacements are still being made. In my opinion, the C5 and C6 are similar enough that it is not worth the money to upgrade if you already own a C5. I would want at least a C7 if I was going to switch. With that said, I had the option to upgrade to a C7 when I paid off the C5. I very seriously considered it. I decided to supercharge the C5 instead. I don't regret my decision.
All C5 EBCMs for ‘01-‘04 have been out of production for years. No longer made. I bought one for my ‘01 years ago to keep as a spare. Prices on new ones (if you find one) are high.
