Open question for driver guys. If you can’t get Moog, who would your next choice be?
I ended up installing the Moog / reboxed NAPA part in my daily driver, because it was in my hand and paid for. So far it's fine - durability remains to be seen.
Someone on one of the facebook groups ran into this problem early 2021 or late last year. Definitely a silly design change, but that explanation makes sense (however poor it may be).
'twas I sir! I posted about it here too haha.
Smitty, I ordered SIXTEEN of the uppers from 4 different sources in an attempt to procure the "correct" versions....and only ONE "correct" piece came in. The other 15 were all as you described. And as you also found, the lowers are still correct Beefy, Moog branding, and greasable. I gave up on finding "correct" uppers after that, returned the overpriced "new" Moogs and ordered Genuine GM uppers from Rockauto for less than 1/3 of the price of the Moogs.
Fun fact for everyone, the "correct" ball joint was "Made in Mexico". And to throw a wrench in the gears of all the anti-China rhetoric....the new/revised ball joints, which closely resemble the OEM ball joints, are....ready?....drum roll....Made in Korea
Just a reminder china is providing almost all the smartphones and laptop of the world. The quality is for most top notch. The automotive components industry in China is growing everyday, and still not at the western level in quality. Beside all you talked about which is true, let's be honest and put the responsibility where it is, the chinese did not steal the parts and forced OEM to accept them. They exist only thanks to short minded individual and collective investors looking for 5points profitability at minimum, and compensating the inflation by "productivity" target which force tier manufacturers to looks for the cheapest solution, and jeopardize durability. raw material quality (metal, plastic, etc...) is often an issue to add to the list of the one mentioned earlier.
my Dorman hazard switch lasted 15h and is dead.

From what I have found, Proforged would be an equal replacement of a MOOG greaseable part. Similar prices as well. You can get the P/N off Holley website.

I just ordered QTY4 GM Genuine 19329420 uppers for $13.49 ea. from RockAuto. I'll plan to return MOOG uppers and put $60 back in my pocket. If things are getting difficult to find, I'll just "sit" on the uppers and have whenever I need them.
Discussing this with some people it seems C5 balljoints don't go bad as often as I assumed. I have 70K mi and street drive with local autocross I just assumed replace it all. We'll see when the time comes to get the arms/knuckles out of the car.

Exactly what I did haha. Moogs were around $40/ea IIRC and GM's were around that $13-14/ea mark. Definitely worth the swap.
Honestly mine were totally fine as far as I could tell. I was just replacing a couple hubs and figured while I was in there...might as well do everything haha.
The suspension is super easy on these, I've already had to replace a front hub again due to a locked up lug nut...in trying to free it up, I actually popped the stud out of the back of the hub....so I had to remove the hub from the car WITH the brake assembly and wheel still attached to it, then carefully cut the back of that stud off with a dremel...LOL
