When my Bose head unit went out, I bought an Alpine CDE-172BT with a PAC Audio ROEM-VET1 (It makes the head unit compatible with the Bose amps and speakers, which I believe have weird EQ built in.
It sounds great, plays CDs and streams Blue Tooth, a nice improvement from stock, without spending a lot. I think I paid about $250 installed for this setup.
