I know this is more of a FI forum question but thought I would get more responses in general. I am currently putting together an AA supercharger build, and hoping to start installing stuff soon. I want to go with 93 pump and run the Alky Control methanol kit using a 2 bar MAP sensor, 100% meth.
I have heard numerous people having issues with the pump leaking after about a year and have to frequently replace / rebuild the pump. Is there any other similar kit that doesn't leak? I understand that methanol inherently will cause these problems, but I don't want to purchase a kit I know has a leak issue.
It's a good and important question. I have an Alky Injection, and I just had to replace the pump because I discovered it wan't leaking, but it wasn't able to keep up any more when racing it and it flowed too low. It has been seriously considering just switching over to E85 rather than to keep screwing with this issue. I talked with the owner at Alky, and he says he has switched companies and has a new improved pump. That is what I bought for now and installed while I wait. He also will no longer rebuild older pumps, so they simply are trash to be thrown away if they fail.
I've only had the new one on for a couple of months so I can't project longevity, but I do race it at things like Texas Mile, so it's not just sitting around while I go 60MPH to work, but not long enough to say otherwise.
My personal decision is to throw this all away in the spring and go to E85, but I do happen to live in the vicinity of getting E85 very easily. That may not be an option for you. I don't have a suggestion for whom else to look at as Alky Control was suggested to me as well by many people over others like SNOW and such.
Yeah that's what I've heard...the owner is helpful and used to replace / rebuild the pumps. Seems like an inevitable issue from reading multiple prior threads. I just don't want to knowingly install something that will have problems. Will be interesting to see how your new pump does long term, maybe the leak issue is corrected?
We do have several stations locally with E85 and I've thought about going that route. I'm worried about the E85 consistency from station to station and would def want to run a flex-fuel option. I've been reading though where this is tricky on the C5s?
