the gas tank would probably fit, but I think I read somewhere that the fuel sender was different and was having problems on the later version.
what is the problem?
TCFS
Late 2003 and 2004 will not work. The fuel delivery system is completely different. 97-02 are the same. They moved the fuel pump hat to the top (ew) for the later years.
We got the C5 in December of 2021.
The gas gauge was on 1/4 tank.Decided to put a $50 amount for fuel. The last couple of dollars I pumped it by hand,so instead of the pump going off automatically I believe I overfilled the tank causing a small fuel spill on the ground, (but it did not come out of the filler pipe )and once it stopped leaking,it leaked no more, nor did I have any gas fumes at all.🤔So now I’m freaking out thinking I have a serious problem. The guy I bought it from said it will spill fuel if you keep pumping after the pump clicks off automatically. I got in touch with the owner who owned it before the guy I bought it from and he said it never leaked when filling up. Fast forward to Sunday Jan 31. I calculated how much gas it would take to fill up without a fuel spill. I guessed 15 gallons to fill according to my gas gauge. To my surprise the pump clicked off at 13.3 gallons with no fuel spill.
😱 So now I’m guessing that you can’t keep pumping after the pump clicks off on auto? My gauge registered a full tank after the pump clicked off. 1) There is a YouTube video for a fix for the filler tube where it connects to the tank? I’m guessing that’s where mine leaked. 2) My friend who owns a C6 had to have his tank, or tanks replaced. He had a crack in his. 3) He filed a NHTSA complaint and got most reimbursed by GM.
NOW I will see next time I fill up what happens, and I will give an update.
THANKS FOR ASKING ABOUT IT. 👍🙏

Honestly, if your gauge shows full after the auto shut off, and there is no leak/spill, and there are no fumes, I would just let the auto shut off do it's thing, and not worry about it. I suspect that when you did it manually, you over filled it, and gas spilled over the top of the fuel filler tube. This is not an issue with the gas tank. Also, be aware that regardless of the situation GM will NOT pay for any sort of repair or replacement of anything on a C5 at this point.
