Hey everyone, recently purchased an 02 zo6. Previous owner installed a borla stinger set up, then apparently decided that was to quiet and replaced the stinger mufflers with straight pipe. All of the original stinger piping is there they juat welded in the replacement pipe...anyone have any luck with any kind of bullet style muffler that will fit in the given space and quiet it down some?
It's still gonna be pretty loud with the bullet style muffler (but it will sound better). Not sure how much quieter you want it to be. Perhaps you could find someone who wants a really loud exhaust who would be willing to trade their setup for yours.
Not much worse than a crappy straight pipe exhaust. They sound like ****. Completely eliminates the elegance of this fine car. Even as a teenager I never ran straight pipe. I once put glass packs on a Chevelle I owned. My buddy convinced me to do it. I put the system on, started it, and took them off. Flowmaster 40s. Much better.
Good luck but I think you're going to have to drop some cash here. Find a good privately owned muffler shop, tell them what you want to do and have them fix it with the mufflers of your choice. It will be done correctly and you'll be happy. If you keep farting around piecing stuff in it will look and sound like caca.
Flowmaster makes mufflers for C5s. They come in a choice of two sound levels.
Cost me $550 installed and they have a nice tone, roar when you stab it, and have a quiet but not silent cruise volume. The performance exhaust shop told they would be too quiet, yet they ended up liking them after the test drive.
