Anyone use this gadget for locating (approximate) TDC?
EDIT. - I discovered these are not recommended for anything except hemi heads and flat top pistons. And yet I’ve watched videos of people using them on LS engines…
Go figure,,,

Use the TDC screw to average degrees between forward and reverse rotation, mount the degree wheel to the crank hub socket, and then turn to TDC. Advantage with this method is further rotation to find TDC of other cylinders for valve spring replacement.
Or, stick a screwdriver in the spark plug hole and call it good?

I was going to buy one to check for true top dead center on my 1968 396, an engine that old, the dampener might not be accurate.
Anyways I just used a straw you can get free with burger combo from whatever fast food, after reading reviews of these tools getting bent by piston moving up in cylinder in reviews online.
Went back and forth clockwise and ccw and determined on my engine the dampener was correct at 0 degrees, the straw was sticking out the furthest, was trying to set Edelbrock distributor to 12 degrees btdc for pro flo 4 fuel multi port fuel injection, for quick/easy first start.

Are you doing a cam and need to verify TDC?
Changing the valve springs using the piston TDC to hold the valves up. That got me to thinking about a more precise method.
Sometimes when people break these tools, I have to wonder if they realize that a delicate touch is all that’s needed…

When I replaced My valve springs, I put a long small diameter rubber vacuum hose into the cylinder, rotated engine until felt resistance. Worked perfectly.
