I would like to know anyone who got a replacement for factory radio. Prefer to find one that fits in existing dash molding. Touch screen, blue tooth, a camera would be nice too.
Spent some time at Best Buy this morning. I am leaning towards doing a DD radio, but nothing fancy, I want it to have simple controls and blend in as best as possible. This one looks good for me, want the big volume button. Anyone have this radio? No NAV, that is fine, I do not use one much, and my phone will do that.
Personally, I wouldn't go through all the headache for that if you weren't adding a touch screen to modernize the car. Get a vintage pioneer 1.5 DIN off eBay and call it a day without changing the bezel if you're truly against marching forward and improving the car with a touch screen unit.
The joying units have had some sucess in here, though I'm not a huge fan. The hardware is still a little janky, not nearly as smooth or refined as the DD units out there.
For a DD unit, I highly recommend the Alpine ILX650... android auto/apple car play, so you get nav (google maps/wayz) right on the screen through your phone. Make your own decision, but if you're going to do this I highly recommend a DD unit. Just replace the bezel. I went with an alpine ilx-650. it's double din, absurdly shallow, apple car play, android auto, etc etc. It's so shallow you can even get a strap-on 450watt amp, which is more than powerful enough to run front speakers

Single DIN conversion
This is kind of cool... the display sizes are available in 7, 9, and 10". This one is a 9"... I think a 7" would be better. Display is removable. You can get a prewired -----> Bose adaptor from Crutchfields if you buy the HU from them.
Single DIN adaptor/Bezel 9" Floating display adjusts vertically and angle is adjustable all axis.
I wouldn't put a Boss audio product in my car if you paid me, but the floating screen is a possible solution for some. Alpine makes one they call the "Halo" that I've used and is VERY nice (but also very expensive, unfortunately).
My car came with a hard wired AUX cable which is fine for me because all I need my radio to do is plug to my phone so I can play Pandora. I don't need a b/u camera or nav (I can use my phone for that). So the current stock radio works fine but the sound quality isn't great.
I'd really like a better head unit and maybe an amp of some sort? I'm no stereo expert. My car is a convertible so I'd like to be able to hear it better through all the wind noise.
Is there something that can go in the stock location that just has an aux cable or bluetooth?

The joying unit mentioned further up in the thread, or a single DIN, but they look really dated.
You can add an amp to your factory stereo and run new wire for the speakers relatively easily with the PAC AOEM-VET1 module. I would do that before I ever considered a single DIN, especially since you already have a 3.5mm jack in your stock unit.

Cool! I had to do a search on what you posted because I had no idea what you were talking about! Looks like this will work:
Yup! I had a sub on the stock stereo for a bit and it was okay, but the door speakers were just too muddy so I eventually went full active and added a 4 channel amp, too.
I was planning on just a new radio, connect to existing BOSE Speakers. This requires I buy $125 extras to get the new Kenwood to talk to BOSE. That seems like a lot of failure points down the road? If a BOSE amplifier dies, or the new parts break, I am in a mess. But the BOSE does sound good still.
Should I instead buy new 3 way speakers, 6x9, for the front doors, and return the extra parts? I understand the proprietary BOSE parts are only on the speakers in the door?
if that makes sense, would love to know suggestions on door speakers. I am having Best Buy do radio install in a week.
