O.K, first post here. After getting lots of new interior parts reupholstered I was reassembling the console and the fuel door button arced against one of the mount posts. I had just reconnected the battery(too soon!) to make sure I put the LED shift indicator bulb in the correct way. Now the button does not work. I can open the door manually (thanks to the forum!)but must have fried something. I am electrically challenged and need some help on this one! Here is a pic of new interior minus seats and glove compartment.
First thing would be to check fuse #32 (fuel door) in the passenger footwell. See the fuse pages in the owners manual. If OK, make sure the fuel door switch wires are connected under the console. They are often inadvertently disconnected during console installation.
I agree, my bet is you fried the fuse. That is what's supposed to blow before the actual switch burn up. If it was the switch I'm guessing you would have smelled melting plastic or wiring.
I assume it was the fuse. Glad you got it going. BTW, I like the diamond tufting on the console cover. Looks good. Are the seats the same material/pattern??
Fuse it was! Should have started there but the 'zap' threw me off.
I have the original tan leather seats. I've been looking for similar covers to match but have not found them yet.. I'm not sure I want black leather seats in a convertible. I'm a little over budget this winter, also did cam, springs, LS6 intake, AR headers, x pipe, harmonic balancer and more
My button was bad. If you disconnect the connector to the fuel door switch and jumper wire it to make contact it should pop open the door. When i first got the car the fuel door switch acted up and wouldnt work sometimes. So i found out it was the switch which was 42$ new from gmpartsdirect or another place that sells gm stock parts. You just got to get to the connector to the switch use a jumper wire to make contact to both sides if the door pops open the switch is bad. I did it a few times and confirmed the gm fuel door switch was bad.
So it was a fuse on your end? Great to hear you got the problem solved. The above way is correct way to test for bad switch. I like this feature as it doesnt need a locking gas cap to prevent someone bombing the tank.
HEll if I know I went outside one morning and both cars an 07 g6 and 06 Saab had the change stolen and gloveboxs left open as well as weedeater from backyard a gallon gas tank stolen and the gate left open. Didn't see it till noon when I woke up but started locking the car doors after that was a few years ago 2018 2019 I think
I got lucky, it was just the fuse. By the size of the arc and loud 'zap' sound I thought that maybe I did damage to the switch
What fuse is it just curious which is for the fuel door switch just incase i run into the same issue? When i bought the car 10 months ago the momentary or fuel door switch would work sometimes maybe 1 out of 5 i had unplugged it and jumper wired the plug and found out the switch was the issue. A new one was 40$ which was nice and easy to replace.
