Been lurking and considering buying a C5 Corvette, and I see a very common modification that owners install a C6 shifter in their C5 manual Corvettes. Why do folks do that? What is the benefit, and is there something inherently wrong with the stock C5 shifter.
The OEM C5 shifter is, shall we say, a bit sloppy.
To be fair, it isn't the worst shifter in the world, but it falls way short of what a sports car like the C5 should have.
Many, including myself, have installed the MGW. It is precise and a bit notchy, if you like that feel. The C6 shifter is about halfway between a C5 shifter and the MGW.
Worth noting that the C6 will sit a little tall...
C6 shifter sits taller than aftermarket options but definitely lower than the original C5 shifter. (BTW that **** on the traction control plate looks familiar )
I run a C6 shifter with TMOD-upgraded lower shifter box. It is SUBSTANTIALLY nicer than the C5 shifter, because this lower box has zero slop and the stock C5 **** is grotesque (personal opinion).
Previously I had a MGW shifter with C6 ****. No doubt it's a nice shifter, but I prefer the stock C6 shifter with TMOD box.

Most people compare a well worn C5 shifter set up with a brand new C6 version. Guess what? the old one is sloppy. I tried a C6 shifter, but went back to a rebuilt stock set up, but with a shortened lever and an aftermarket shift ****. The C6 set up moves the **** rearward, as there is a rearward "bend" in the lever. Not a lot, but I preferred it where it was.
