Default 2004 Dic buttons

I am going to do the climate control dim repair. While I have gone this far how would I get to the dic switches and hud switches without removing the gauge cluster
I have done many searches but none came back without having to remove the gauge cluster. Any input on this will be appreciated.

Can you explain this a little more? Is there a problem with the DIC buttons?

I have never tried to remove those buttons, but I have a feeling the gauge cluster may have to be removed.

The dic buttons have some backlights out and the hud dimmer will not dim, and at night it is blindingly bright. Being I have no need to remove the gages I'd prefer not to do that. Some have removed that bezel and painted it or carbon wrapped it so I thought someone would kinow.

Cluster has to come out. It is not possible to change the bulbs for the back lights any other way.
