I’m wanting to clean up the look of the engine. Specifically the top end. Since installing the Trick Flow heads the Vette coil covers just don’t latch into place on the passenger side. I’m sure if I spent a little time I could get them back in place. Not a big deal as I like to see the engine not plastic covers anyways. Does anyone have a good recommendation to relocate the coils so I can open up my options for a good looking valve cover?
2001 Manual Coupe
Primary advice: above all, don't do the retiree/mid-life glam look with polished metal and Corvette flags and logos everywhere. It screams poser and cheap. 88% of those cars are automatic. LOL
Hmmm....
Nice heads and some work....
The coils can be placed in the fenders on a bar mount (60), withe extended harness (25), and custom length ignition wires (80 to 180).
Then the valve covers become the jewel box and you don't look like every other LS with the coil packs on top. Sky is the limit for valve covers then. I'd personally like to see the factory covers with the mounts ground smooth and painted. It would look clean. But there are tons of aftermarket to he had.
Wire loom. Cleaning up the wiring now that it will be visibly is advised. Can be done cheap and easy.
I don't recommend painting the intake. That always flakes off. But maybe now is the time for a Fast / LS2 combo with fuel rails?
As mentioned by Tusc don’t go overboard every with stick on available item on the market. Relocating the coil packs and nice valve covers make the engine really stand out from the rest. Here’s mine. Coils are in the fenders and much of the wiring has been hidden or rerouted. PCV system upgraded to the LS2 style and the purge valve moved under the brake booster.

@Bandit 00C5 That looks sexy as hell. Do you have a few close-ups of the work you've done in different areas?

Not really. Most of the wiring is up under the cowl. We extended the purge valve line to get it out of the way and the PCV i went to the integrated with the valley cover design.
FYI this car is an auto with 260,000 miles. But may be being converted to a 6spd in the not far off future.
I'm a big fan of no fuel rail covers and the Holley Valve covers that utilize the much cleaner LS3 coils. No coil brackets.
I personally also like the coils to be on the valve covers instead of remote mounting them. I don't understand the desire to move them. They are supposed to be there lol.
I also agree with Tusc. The putting fancy chrome covers all over everything is not my cup of tea, but I get it, some people love that look.

I won’t be “sticking” anything on the car. I won’t even do one of those spoilers that’s held on with double sided tape. Parts are not supposed to be tapped on a car. I just want to run a nice set of valve covers like yours. I’ve been eyeing the red covers with the cursive Chevrolet script. There’s just too much going on with the coils mounted on top. I also plan on doing a low rise intake, fuel rail, & throttle body down the road to finish off my engine build.
Do you have any pics showing your coil mounts and location?
There are brackets which are sold to pack the four coils together tightly now. My first one was hand-made with spacers, bolts and two small plates. On the Z06 I bought a kit for the larger IGN-1as. But the original D580 or D585 are easy and small for placement. I learned just from this thread that LS3 coils may be smaller. But for mounting, there are a number of surfaces available in the driver fender well near the firewall. Down low on the frame for easy access. Connected the the square frame support piece also easy. I don't know why but I chose Option 3 and placed them vertically against the rearmost flat face to the right when looking in through the fender hole. For the passenger side.... I don't fully recall where I mounted them. There is less available landscape over there with the ECU packed in. I passed the wires under the battery tray area, so the pack must have been mounted on the lower half in there somewhere within reach. It's been about 7 years now, sorry I don't remember.
You can also go with something like the Katech coil relocation kit which doesn't look too bad...not as nice as Bandit's car above...but not bad at all.
For the effort and investment in performance while also attempting to make it look good.... I'd still remote them. The katech setup does look squared away. It just seems a lot of money to go half way.

Agreed. It looks so much cleaner without all that crap right on top. I like clean and tidy.
If I could run a clear valve cover I would, just to see those rollers!
That's what I did. Not by initial intent, but by happenstance and snowball because I had extra income for a while and a dead end relationship so I decided heck with it. When the LS6 block went my first thought was 5.3 and dump it. But I had money to burn and ended up thinking I'll just get a used block and slap some basic forged pieces in it. Couldn't find an LS1 or 6 at that time so I went LS2 and scored a few good parts on sale and ended up with what should be a 10.5:1 monstrosity. Probably never do it again. But I've never had something "nice" before. Now because the build goals evolved and changed i hope i haven't mismatched it all too much. Should have kept a smaller crank and gone for a better block.

Kuddos to you my man. That is beautiful engine bay. Very tastefully done.
