Default Which Tires for C5 ?

Well, I bought a C5 new twenty years ago and have ORIGINAL Goodyear Run flats still on it ! Just got back from a river run today and decided it was time for new tires ! Almost 15000 on my car ! I don't drive it in winter, don't race, only leisure driving ! I really didn't notice much road/tire noise from the run flats but my hearing is not great ! I have read that run flats are much improved from twenty years ago. So lay it on me ! Your preference for tires ?

Had the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus tires installed on my 2004 Convertible today that has 31,000 miles. They replaced Goodyear F1 runflats that had a date code of 2009, that still had 8/32” tread depth left on them. All I can say is WOW! Day and night difference. I would highly recommend these tires.

Had the TPMS sensors replaced with new Schrader 20117. The one’s that were replaced were the originals manufactured in 2003. They were still working after 19 years.

Can’t beat the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus all season tires. I had them installed on my 2004 Convertible this week and the ride is night and day difference from the run flats that were on my car. $1,035.00 out the door (tires, mounting, balancing and tax) from my local tire shop. Would not hesitate to do it again. The Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus were the top rated tire, for their class, by Tire Rack. Beat the same class Michelin tires, which was rated number 3 out of 31 tires.

Oh boy....ask a dozen folks their thoughts on tires and guess what....? In todays highly competitive tire market, the consumer, unless there is a horror story on a new set of tires, folks are typically going to give you positive feedback on their recent purchase if they are happy. Consumer Reports, Tire Rack, Discount Tire, auto dealerships, etc., will offer ratings, opinions, and more, based on their own theories, sales volumes, "mfg. incentives", what the boss says to push, or current inventory stock. On this forum go to the tech sections of C4, C5, C6, C7 and search tire recommendations. I did and it was all over the map. I'm sure others will chime in offering their experiences. What may be most important is how and where you drive your car. Looking forward to replies.

EDIT: Suggestion....call or visit several of your local tire retailers; tell them your car year/model, tire size, how/where you drive, how much you are willing to spend, etc. and get some of their opinions/quotes, discounts available, stock on hand, and so on. That is where you will most likely end up buying your tires anyway.

Well, I will be passing my 03 50th anniversary corvette to my daughter soon and safety wise I think I will stay with run flats ! At this point I am most interested in Bridgestone Drive Guard tires which I think would be a good choice for run flats ! Thanks for your opinions ! As they say, " anyone asking you for your opinion, is actually looking for an accomplice" Continental Extreme Contact look enticing but a run flat is what I think I want for my daughter !

I got my 1999 convertible in 2010 and ran it with the Michelin run-flats that were on it for a couple of years (not the originals - these had been put on by the previous owner). Went with regular (non-run-flat) after that - Michelin PS3s. Much preferred the ride on the regular tires. I now run two wheel/tire sets - the original Mag Sport wheels on Continental Extreme Contact DWS all-seasons for fall-spring and Z06 Speedlines on Continental Extreme Contact Sport SL summer tires for spring-fall.

I do prefer non-run flats and will never go back to run-flats on any of my cars. There are a lot of good choices out there - Michelin, Continental, and others. Good performance non-run flat all-seasons are a good choice for multi-season use. If you have the space, a second wheel/tire set with summer tires is a worthwhile option.

General G-Max RS non-run flats on mine. $702 out the door with free shipping from Tire Rack. They are a phenomenal tire for a great price.

I would take this opportunity to invest in 4 new tire pressure sensors as well.
