Default Window Tinting Input

Based on numerous threads on the issues of tinting the rear hatch (dots showing air bubbles, hazy….) I called two highly regarded companies in my area for a quote and how they would handle the rear window. Thoughts, suggestions…?

The first company acknowledged the challenge of tinting this area and that it applies to other vehicles as well. They simply spend extra time ensuring there are no air bubbles and based on their experience have been successful in this approach. They do not like sanding down the dots or using Dotrix as you then have two seams.

The second company also acknowledged the challenge of tinting this area. Their solution is to tint the entire window and then apply a vinyl strip on the outside over this area. They stated that every 5-7 years the vinyl strip may need to be replaced due to fading ($50). They recommended a 20% tint versus my planned 35% to better match the tint to the vinyl.
