Just recently purchased a ECS SC1500 supercharger kit (being shipped right now) for my 2004 Corvette with a TSP V2 cam, currently makes 363 WHP, and i was wondering what everyones opinion was in regards to a meth kit.
Do you think its required?
Would you recommend it?
My power goals are 500-550 WHP.
Any advice from you genius gentleman would be greatly appreciated!
My hunch is that 91 octane might work if timing is not too aggressive - but honestly, I would talk to ECS about your combo and ask their advice - they have probably done dozens just like it and would have the best opinion. Otherwise whomever tunes should set the timing based upon if you are running meth or not. I have a similar kit with around 550RWHP and I do things kinda different - I blend my fuel and have tuned it to E33 which is around 95 octane or so - it made a nice difference over 91 octane pump gas.
I run 93 and no meth. 580/520 are my numbers with timing I think around 15*. The ecs kit on mine has been on the car for around 5k miles and no issues have came up. It's all in the tune fyi

If you dont mind me asking, whats your limiter set at? Are you on stock bottom end?

Still on stock bottom end (added PAC springs), and limiter set to stock as well. I have 45k on the car. Had major valve float on the stock springs. Search my name and you'll see the threads.

Sweet. You guys calmed my nerves with this, i appreciate the responses and helpful feedback.

I have the Novi 1500 from ECS on my car. 93 pump, no meth, @ 10lbs of boost. I have forged internals but a stock crank. 232/236/113 cam. And I had the springs replaced with BTRs when the Novi was installed. Tuned by Doug at ECS.
634rwhp/568rwtq.
Rev limiter is set at 6500 now. It was 6800 prior to the procharger.
Car was at 418rwhp/398rwtq with 4.10s NA.
You'll love the new power when you want it and how it drives when just cruising around town.
It's awesome.
Out of the box I got 561whp/560 wtq with MSD Air Force IM, headers and 90mm TB. It upped to 633/596 with Texas Speed cam, both on 93 octane no AI. I ran this for 5 years no issues. I just put smaller pully and added meth injection, it's getting tuned next week. So no, you don't need meth on the standard pulley.
Little more info on this subject. When a tuner is optimizing the timing part of the tune he is looking for maximum brake torque (MBT). A lot of times, the combo will be limited by the engine experiencing knock before reaching the ideal amount of ignition timing.
If this happens you have the following choices to make (or a combo of choices)
Go a little richer on the WOT air fuel ratio - to a certain point - richer lessens knock.
Leave the timing lower than ideal and live with less horsepower
Increase the octane of your fuel (i.e. 93 pump vs 91
Or switch to a greater ethanol content of your fuel (increases octane and cooling effect from the ethanol)
Go with meth injection
Use a bigger blower pulley to have less boost.
I am sure I missed something??
These are decisions whomever is tuning your engine would have to make - hopefully with your input as to which of the options you would like to go with.

Badass man, Appreciate the response and guidance.
No meth for me! (lol)
off topic question, did you replace your fuel pump to a stage 1 that A/A offers, or did you run a boost a pump style?
ECS says its only good up to 550 WHP which is fine for me, but i've been reading on the forums a little, and some people are having issues with it.
I went with the boost a pump option, but now i'm slightly regretting this decision.
What do you gents think?

A&A provided me with a boost a pump as part of my kit. I like the theory of it (it only adds when under boost -the lack of vacuum -ie WOT triggers it) upping the voltage to the pump for that 1/3 % of the time you are actually driving at WOT. The other 99% of the time the stock pump for my year C5 (there are some differences through the years) keeps up just fine. I scan a LOT and in the few years I have had my supercharger, it has never gone lean - which it would if the fuel pressure dropped. So far I love mine - but that is just one guys opinion. Again, if you are buying the kit now, I would ask ECS for their professional opinion about your application and future plans - they are a good company with a good reputation, I would trust them.
