Default Quick Steer Angle Kit Feedback

I would like to get some feedback on owners only for openers about steering response and what difference is felt in daily driving characteristics?
Besides promoting tighter turning radius, what I’d really like to hear is how owners feel about the overall change in responsiveness in normal as well as aggressive handling input feedback
Thanks to owners and replies

Reason I'm looking for feedback is main purpose driving the creation of systems like this is for track use. Should be great for street use but it makes for wider angle at a faster rate

Don't forget to pick up the rear kit while you're in there

C5 is becoming increasingly popular for modified driving events not recognized by current base that enhance the cars driving experience like steering angle associated with track related driving. Street use can also take advantage of steering angle kits and coilover setups that a OE C5 car can never realize allowing higher level of performance driving style younger drivers associate with European and Asian sports car.

I opted for the FDF Mini Mantis kit, which has been installed in my Z06 for a few months now in the "mild" setting. Below is the feedback I posted for it in a different thread: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1605101130

Also because the C5's factory steering is SO slow, the modified steering rate just feels more normal like other cars. That's a good thing
Steering effort has increased a little as expected, but it's far from excessive IMO.
  • Turning radius feels much improved [as expected]. It's odd to say, but I'm still acclimating to this aspect... I was very much in-tune with the crappy stock turning radius.
  • There is definitely rubbing between the lower control arm and wheel. Sooner than later I'll have to address this, probably with a small rack spacer and mild grinding of the LCA.

And I gotta say, my C5Z really is better to drive right now. Steering rate/speed feels "normal", not slow like stock, and not too fast either. Steering effort is still perfectly acceptable. AND THE DARN THING HAS A REASONABLE TURNING RADIUS! With the kit I've managed to take a point off some of my usual multi-point turns. Also U-turns and general parking lot driving are less panic-inducing because it's less likely I will need to make an unexpected multi-point turn.

The car is a daily driver and I prefer keeping the nannies active... changing the rate of steering (via an angle kit) screws with Active Handling so the car can't really function properly with AH enabled. To counter this I've been developing a device which manipulates the SWPS signal. It's been quite successful considering it was installed at the same time as the angle kit, and the car hasn't demonstrated any adverse/unexpected behavior since angle kit installation.

That’s really good to hear that an aftermarket part can return the overall feel.
Too bad GM builds really good Corvettes and hobbles the car with this type of steering response but great to hear you enjoy the car alot more now.

Couple of closing question if you would please.
Has the on-center feel in straight line daily highway driving changed at all and any noticeable differences in say quick freeway lane changes ?
Thanks again for the info

I struggle with determining on-center feel... it seems to be a pretty subjective subject from person-to-person and varies from car-to-car. It can be affected by alignment and slop in the steering column, steering shaft, rack, and tie rods. I also don't have a ton of experience with understanding of on-center feel...
That said, I do believe it improved. My alignment isn't completely dialed in yet, but driving down the highway it doesn't feel sloppy or lazy, very much just takes a small point for it to shoot in the appropriate direction. And it's not excessive where the car feels twitchy or overly sensitive, but that can be alignment related anyways.

Keep in mind that my experiences only relate to Mini Mantis "mild". SLR Speed, Vettenuts, etc. all provide increased angle / quickness over mine that somebody like myself might find excessive.

You don't need or want anything aftermarket for a TRACK car when it comes to steering, besides perhaps a bumpsteer kit once you start really honing your skills and dropping your lap times.
The stock setup is fine. Now, if you want to go DRIFTING, yes an angle kit is appropriate.
