Happy 4th! I have an 04 z06 CE which came with ppf on the front bumper. Its quite old and starting to yellow. Has anyone applied ppf on the hood, roof, and trunk? I'm concerned with the racing decals and how the ppf would be applied over it. Ideally, I want paint correction, ppf, and ceramic coating. Thanks!
I went through this process in 2019 with my CEZ06. I happened to have a 2nd set of hood stripes since 2004 in my possession. So I ended up removing my original stripes, having the paint corrected, the ppf placed onto the paint and the second set of stripes placed on top of the ppf and then ceramic coated.
if I did not have the second set of stripes, I would have had the paint corrected with the stripes on the car. Then I would have had the ppf placed on top of the stripes and paint, then ceramic coated. This scenario leaves the chance for a very small lift or gap as the ppf moves from the paint onto the stripe. Some folks say it will leave a line that can be seen, but if it protects the stripe and the paint, I would be okay with that.
Talk with your installer on there thoughts of ppf on top of stripes. It's my understanding that Xpel does not work well over stripes but I have heard the Llumar does a better job of going over the stripes without leaving a line.
I never thought of a second set! Thanks so much for the information. Looks like paint correction, ppf and then ceramic coating is the right sequence. It will cost a pretty penny but will be worth it. I also have to remove the old ppf carefully.
